I bought a DS lite today as im going away for 2 weeks and wanted something for the travelling other than my ipod.

My mother and sister has one and they mostly play the brain games, which to me, arent games!

I got super mario (the new one) and sonic adventures (it came with it) and have yet to play them.

Can you recommend your favourite games please? As you can see im a big xbox player but im not too nerdy! :)

I like mario and zelda type games.

Zelda The Phantom Hourglass is one of the best games on the system and should be top of your list.

You'll get alot of value out of both DS Castlevania games too.

Check here for a full list of DS games, sorted by ratings: http://www.metacritic.com/games/ds/scores/

They're both good, but Dawn of Sorrow is still much better ;)

The Advance Wars games are also brilliant.

One game that never really gets a mention is Tetris DS. It's one game I keep coming back to after finishing the others. I guess you can just never have enough Tetris.

puzzle quest may not be a big name but has kept me entertained for months. one of those casual games you can't put down

If we're talking left field, non-mainstream titles that suck battery life from your DS, then I've got alot of mileage out of 7 Wonders Of The Ancient World (a bejewelled-style puzzle game with lots of replayability), Zoo Keeper (same deal, but with 4 or 5 modes, and a great combo system).

I've also been hooked Crosswords DS (Nintendo's own Crosswords game, not to be confused with CrossworDS which came out in Europe last year). Its a crossword game, anagram game and word search game with great controls and typical Nintendo production values.

Crosswords DS has been pulling me away from The World Ends With You, an action RPG with a whacky story line, tons of depth and very addictive gameplay.

Insanely addictive, isn't it, probably spent more time on that guy than all the rest put together, amazing that some of the best games for the DS are the 8mg ones.
Another brain puzzle that's good is PicPic or Pogo Island, great replayability

cant recommend advance wars enough. one of the best games series out there.

Elite Beat Agents. Don't mind how bad the track listing is, the cheesey corporate pop songs suit the game really well and jumping jack flash was recorded by the stones with this game in mind :)

Osu Tatakae Ouendan is better but you'll be waiting a while for delivery.

I really want to check out The World Ends With You, looks great and some good reviews.

this is a little off topic but I'l throw it out there, I have an old style DS, Its a pretty secondary console for me, I dotn give it mad amounts of use. Game Stop have a trade in offer where they will take my old DS and give me a DS Llite for €80. Worth while? the Lite is much nicer and brighter screens, what do people reckon? sound like a good deal?

Yep, sounds like a no-brainer, valley. Longer battery, brighter screen, smaller case. Win, win.

It's really good but it's quite heavy on dialog. Which is stopping me from getting into it properly. It's annoying as I can see it has great potential.

I had a look on Gamefaqs, and it doesn't look like its out in Europe yet. Came out in the USA in Feb, and in Australia in April.

Try Play-Asia for an import. It will work out less than €30 including postage.

Thanks Mr. E, any idea how long delivery takes?

Its been a while since I've imported from there, but I seem to remember 7 working days for some reason (order Monday, get it Wednesday week). I'm open to correction though.

My absolute favourites are the pheonix wright/ace attorney games - just got apollo justice today :D. They are the most addictive games ive ever played, i played the first one non stop for about 3 days untill i finished, its fantastic. I definitely recommed these.

Legend of Zelda: phantom hourglass is quite good, definitely got a fair amount of play out of it, though i never finished it. Theres a really annoying thing where you have to keep going through the same castle while being timed, i was on about the 7th trip through when i gave up, but i was most of way through the game so i still think it was worth it.

The only other games ive ever gotten great enjoyment out of is pokemon, thats not for everyone i know, but it can be very addictive and loads of gameplay, even if your not one of those freaks who can be bothered to catch all the little bastards.

Whatever you do, stay away from FIFA 08. Quite possibly the worst game I have ever played, on any format. And I've been around a while. On the positive side, Star Wars Lego is good fun, and I believe Mario Kart has already been mentioned.

I think its already been mentioned but Phantom Hour Glass is just fantastic, I'm half way through it and I'm loving it. Its my first foray into the Zelda series and I'll be going back to play some others on the Virtual Console.

If I'd have to pick one game it'd be Pokemon Diamond/Pearl. They're great games and guarantee hours of entertainment. They may seem to some childish, but give it a go and you won't regret it. I also got Final Fantasy III recently, and while I haven't had much time to play recently what I have seen looks great. Its got great graphics and an excellent story to boot. I'm only hoping its a lasting game time wise and not too short. If its anything like the other games in the series it should last a while. Zelda: The Phantom Hourglass has already been mentioned, and I'd back that up. It makes good use of the DS' touch-screen function unlike some of the games out there. You can probably guess that I'm an RPG fan, and I think the three games I've mentioned really do the genre justice on the DS.
A lot have mentioned Advance Wars, which I also bought on a recommendation. In my opinion its a great game, the story mode isn't the best and is pretty easy to get through, but its perfect to teach you the basics of the game. Playing online is the games strongest point I'd think, but I'd have to say after not too long playing the game I got pretty bored of it; it got very monotonous. I probably will pick it up again eventually, but if you're buying new games, I'd recommend something else first. But thats just me!

Strange, I thought the same about Pokemon Diamond/Pearl ;)

Played it for about a week. Turned it on one day, went 'meh' and never played it again.

Hahaha! I can see why too, I wouldn't blame you. I get fun out of leveling up and getting better characters. I suppose its similar for both games, but I'd say its the story thats keeping me glued to Pokemon (not that its any different from previous Pokemon games, or that it is that good a story).
