Car Tracker Systems

Does anyone have one fitted to their motor?

Just bought a nearly new Mazda RX 8 and I'd like some reassurance that if some toe-rag takes off in it there might be some slight chance he'll get caught or I'd get my car back.
Had a quick search on the net but can't find much info unless I want a fleet tracker (which I dont).
Just some idea of prices, fitting, other costs.

    Thanks

www.tracker.co.uk are operating in Ireland now - that's the system the Gardai and UK police forces have in their cars. It's about €1000 to have it installed and then there is a monthly subscription - think that could be around €25, but I might be well out as it was last year they did the presentation to us.

www.motorminder.ie seem to be the best alright, I had them take one out of my car recently as it was faulty and draining the battery.

They cost about €1400 for the top of the range, immobilise, speed alert, google earth tracking, listen/speak to occupants etc. They do work and can be switched from car to car when you change. They are not cheap but I think they should be put on every new car worth over 60 - 70K you are almost guaranteed to get your car back within a few hours of it being nicked.

You can do it cheaper yourself

    www.gpsgate.com
    or
    www.connect2car.com

    or even cheaper

any gps tracking device would do. using A cheap globalsat tr-101 you can just text it it will tell you where it is, pop the co-ordinates into google maps, on an o2 prepay sim card they are cheap to run as there credit expiry period is quite long. Hide the unit in the car and your sorted.

I'd seriously think carefully about putting a tracking system on your car, if it's found you may not want it back as it could be half wrecked amd you would financially be better off with a total loss of the car and settlemeant from your insurance company. Personally if mine is stolen I don't want it back.

Professional thieves can now get gps/gsm blockers that will block out both signals.

Bought a 911 a few years back. It was a 1996 and the insurance company insisted I had one installed. Cost €1,100 with no subscription. They charged a small fee if you wanted the car tracked. Sorry, can't remember the name of the company.

Personally I wouldn't bother unless the insurance company insisted on it.

You'd need to power it though - would that be easy enough?

Good luck with the installation but there is no need to bring up a 6 year old thread.
