Just a quick warning on Amazon.com

Lads for over the last 18 months I haven't got hit with customs charges on DVD's and Blu-Rays from Amazon.com taking advantage of some of their 3 for 2 deals, even around xmas last year I didn't get hit, I always picked the slowest and cheapest shipping option and they all seemed to ship via Auckland in New Zealand and took around 3 weeks. Anyway I placed 6 orders over the last 5 weeks out of the 5 I've received 4 have been hit with customs charges  to make matters worse one of the orders was part of a 3 for 2 deal and when I looked at the box amazon had put the full value of the discs on the declaration  Anyway most orders where in the 60-80 dollar value and the got hit with charges of between 16 and 17 euros per package. The reason I'm getting hit is the shipping route has changes and they are now coming in directly from the US rather then going in through New Zealand or even main land europe, so just a warning for you, look for single disc shipping or use someone like movietyme or Axelmusic, amazon prices look good but when you consider customs charges on this side you lose any savings you might get!

I've had 3 out of 5 stopped since Christmas. Last time I was down collecting and paying, the guy in the office said he'd seen a lot of Amazon orders stopped recently. Seems they're on the look out for them in particular.

I don't think so much that it is a warning about Amazon tbh but more that customs are cracking down at what appears a crazily fast rate.

anyone know if say you order a single disc do they still waste cardboard by shipping it in those oversized amazon boxes? or do they have smaller packaging that will go through your post box?
I'm gonna do a test buy on tower.com as they are pretty cheap on single disc shipments and some of their pricing is as good if not better in some cases compared to Amazon.

Why wouldnt you get charged customs from movietyme.com

think its because Movietyme include the shipping charge in the cost of the discs so if 2 order two or three they ship each one seperately, they also list the item as a gift and if memory serves me right they mark the value down. Downside to using them is they are not the cheapest to buy from. Axel are another good alternative, I picked up Rescue Dawn Blu-Ray for 15 euros from them (Region A).

yeah Axelmusic.com have warehouses in a number of countries in europe where they distribute their US, canadian & Australian DVD's/HD discs, this means you don't get hit by customs charges, well worth checking out if your worried about the customs risk of importing, delivery usually takes about a week if the item is in stock sometimes they get discs in before time and will ship as soon as available. I was only let down once by them and that was around xmas when there was a delay in me recieving my 5 disc HD-DVD version of Blade Runner, but it did turn up, that was more down to the postage system. All discs are typically shipped in Jiffy bags so go through your letter box if your not around.
