MCE not able to talk IR with new NTL STB

    Hi folks

Have just moved house, and have had NTL in to install their STB. All fine and well, except Vista (MCE) won't recognise it - the IR signals are different from the old PACE unit, so attempting to get Vista to reconfigure itself is going around in loops.

I have tried searching Vista's STB list and it's not in there.

I have tried using Vista's "IR Learning" function - it just keeps repeating itself, 'Press and hold the 1 button, continue holding button, release button' - keeps doing that many dozens of times just for the "1" button before I give up.

The STB is a PACE DC621KU and both it and its remote controller are working fine in isolation from Vista

Any ideas ? Is there another PACE unit in Vista's list that is compatible ?

    Thanks

    Frank

How to: NTL/UPC/Chorus DVR and MCE

just got the NTL DVR today, its guide is so bad it has reduced me to tears.
i have decided to route it through mce as it has the best guide features i have ever seen.

all was going well until it got to the remote setup part.
"hold channel up" - "your remote was not recognised"
no bother ill just set it up manually, ive dont it before so no worried, right?

    wrong!
    goes like this -
    press 1, hold 1, release 1
    press 1, hold 1, release 1
    press 1, hold 1, release 1
    press 1, hold 1, release 1

and so on, forever and ever and ever!

so i google and google and google,
turns out this problem is only with the UPC mediabox

the trick is to press 1, while still holding 1, point the remote away from the receiver for a split second, point it back at the screen and it will be recognised.

hope this saves anyone out there some frustration!

By god, it works ! Only had to try each button 4 or 5 times LOL, but it works !

I also had to remove the plastic panel from the front of the UPC box (don't tell them that) to find out where the IR receiver is. It's just 2cm to the left of the LED display.

    Thanks again, Subway !
