Tried to buy Cars on Blu-Ray from DVD.co.uk @ £17.49. Added the item to my basket. When I went to check out I got a message saying the item was removed because of EU law.
We are very sorry but due to import/export regulations we are unable to ship the following item(s) to the EU and
must remove them from your basket: BUY0031701
Emailed them and they sent me a reply:
I am sorry but we can not ship items over £16 to within the EU from our Swiss depot due to import law.

I am sorry for any inconvenience caused.
    Eh, what?

I've bought DVDs over £16 from other online DVD stores.

£16 is the VAT cutoff point for importing into th UK. So I guess the reason they're doing this is to avoid complaints from angry customers who get nabbed for VAT on receiving the goods. Seems a bit stupid though, VAT and import duty are always the recipients problem and a seller shouldn't be restricting the sale of the goods. Saying it's due to import law is a bit stupid too. There are no laws against shipping it in, it just leaves the recipient liable to pay VAT if the shipment gets inspected.

Strange that they have a UK website, charge in Pounds but won't ship certain items to the UK (I assume).
