It's a bit of a craphole to be honest. THe boardwalk is fine, and the street behind the boardwalk has shops and stuff on it and is generally fine as well. The rest of the city is a bit of a hole though that you would be best advised to avoid except to drive through on the way in and out.

Stay in one of the casinos on the boardwalk, I'm sure they are all fine. I stayed in some little motel just off the boardwalk when I was there for a couple of days a few years back. I didn't play much poker as it was very soon after I started playing and also it was a few years back as said (about 4). There are probably reviews of the poker rooms on the web if you look for them.

I was there for the weekend before Paddy's Day - Dom's right, it's a dump.

We stayed in Caesar's, which is quite nice, and spent time in Bally's and the Tropicana.

I wouldn't go back, I have to say. It's roughly 3 hours drive from NYC, and not worth it.

I was there about 4 years ago. Its fine to stop off in on your way somewhere else but I wouldn't go out of my way to visit it.

I stayed in the Taj, nice big rooms but it was a bit pricey. Big poker room downstairs.

If you're on a budget, call this place http://www.theirishpub.com/irishpubinn2.htm

they have some rooms upstairs but the guest house part wasn't open the time of year I was there. iirc there was a motel6 100 yards away from it and its just off the boardwalk.

Agree with the others total dive, I went there in March (Was in NYC Paddy's Weekend). Very very dissapointed, stayed in Harrahs and the only good thing about my 2 days there was the huge room we had.

Was there about two years ago first time i got the bus from NY $20 i think which they refunded.I returned on the same day so it was like a 24 hour trip not advisable.

Second time i stayed in a holiday inn at black horse pike $10 dollar taxi from the boardwalk nice room it was $70 i think.

2 nights would be plenty imo

thanks for the replies guys. ya i heard it was a s**thole alright. we were meant to make it to vegas but the trip is being cut a week short coz 2 lads have to be back. we'll only be there for max 2 days so it should be okay!

As per previous posts it's a dump. A bit like Bray with Casinos...only not so quaint. More like Ballyfermot with Casinos...and a beach. I stayed in a place close to the irish pub (which is open 24 hours) and was told by a cop to always make sure I didnt turn left after leaving the pub as I was likely to be mugged. This was of course 3 nights into my stay and I'd been cutting through the backlots on the left to get back to the hotel as going right was a 20 minute round trip.

Anyhow nothing much to see and not worth going to unless you desperately need to gamble near Philly.

    .

Tropicana filed for bankruptcy this week. New York is too amazing to bother with Atlantic City surely.
