Also not sure if there will be much training over the summer. If you have a car you can find judo on the m50 in coolmine near blanch shopping centre and in lusk also as well as swords and portmarnock

lots of info in this link

Yeah i emailed them already they said its only for students or alumini.
Anywhere that far up the M50 is just too far for a constant sport! I'll have rugby twice a week when the pre season starts in Aug and powerlifting twice a week year round so its gonna be hard to fit something new in even though i do have some free time as mentioned not that much free time.......as such. Although tuesday would be great. I may go in and meet them in UCD see if theres any exceptions they can make.

Really wanna get involved, i was away with a guy who represented at national level and after talking to him it kinda cemented it in place.
I'll have a good ring aorund this weekend.

    Thanks Anyway guys,

    Regards,

    Lay

footing are you a member of that club? sounds like a silly question but why are the instructors wearing black gis in the website photo? i've never seen a judo person wear a black gi.

It's very strange to use the term "Kodokan" in the club name and then appear on the front page of the website in black gi. The Kodokan dojo rules forbid even the wearing of a blue gi!

Another anomoly is Judo doesn't have a "Moral Code" as claimed on the site.

Anyway, I only hope they are good Judo teachers.

All I know is that I was out there y'day and David and Fred are good guys; the kids were all having a ball and learning a lot.
They wear black with their names on the back simply so that they can be identifiable. Both of them come from France, where judo is huge.
I'm not a judo player, but I was very impressed by their set-up. Plus the fees are very reasonable.
If I wanted to learn judo, I would certainly give them a try - what have you to lose?

I'm glad to hear they're doing a good job :)

Many Martial Arts are very popular in France alright. The French Judo Federation in fact also includes more than just Judo (It's full name translates to something like "French Federation of Judo, Jujitsu, Kendo and Associated Disciplines"). So if I was to hazard a guess, I reckon they come from a Budō club in France that practices a mix of at least Judo and Jujitsu and the Jujitsu tradition is where the black gi comes from.

Also the idea of a "Moral Code" was part of the life of a Samurai (known as "Bushidō") and Jujitsu would have a closer link to the Samurai tradition than Judo. So I speculate they are teaching a mixture of Judo and Jujitsu techniques.

There's nothing wrong with that of course, I myself would just have different expectations from a club that uses "Kodokan" in it's name :)

Two new judo clubs will open on the southside of Dublin in September 2009
The ICC judo club is already up & running for children in the Mosque, Clonskeagh. Senior classes will start after the summer break
Also, Dalkey Judo Club will open in September in the new Martial Arts Centre in Castle St. next to the Queens Pub.
Class timetables have yet to be arranged for both, but will keep you posted.
