Might be heading over there with the ol' ball and chain.... If we go we'll be there 3 days.

Anybody been there? Have any recommendations?

If you're going in the summer, head out to the beach at jurmala. Also loads of places out there for spa treatments and stuff (maybe not for you, but...)

Apparently there's a shooting place somewhere in Riga, seems to be popular with some (apparently Limerick gangs and the like!) Oh here's something on it...

Skybar in Reval - 27 storeys high, nice cocktails.
The museum of occupation is well worth visiting. Visit the markets in the old Zeppelin hangars. (And it's just a food market, my friend was disappointed, she was under the impression you could get anything and everything there...)
In winter you can do the bobsleigh in Sigulda, but there's something on wheels in summer apparently. Check it out in advance though, we went in winter, looking forward to this great bobsleigh, but nothing was happening that day.

Some of this stuff is expensive, but a lot of it you can probably figure out how to do it without the middleman...

Anyway, you can find out most stuff here http://www.inyourpocket.com/latvia/city/riga.html

You have to book it in advance.

Just back from a stag weekend there, admittedly a stag weekend is particularly hated over ther, but in general the people are rude, obnoxious and HATE English speaking people. If you dont ask the taxi man for a price up front, they leave their meter off and charge 100 odd quid for a 5 miin journey. You can challenge them but even if the police come they are as corrupt as the rest and demand you must pay or they will stop you from travelling home. My wallet was dipped, one of the lads was surrounded by 3 bouncers as he went to leave demandins Lats off him. On average expect to pay the equivalent of €6.50/€7 a beer

Myself and my boyfriend went over last year- for a long weekend. It was cool to go somewhere different and the architecture was lovely, but I wouldnt really recommend it.

We stayed in the hotel with the skylon hotel, and the hotel was lovely and the bar was amazing- with brilliant cocktails (try the bloody Mary!)

Outside the hotel though there wasnt that much to do beyond looking at the buildings. We went to the museum of occupation etc, but there was very little in English.

Also, because it was such a stag party place, women are very much in the minority in the touristy places, and I certainly was quite uncomfortable being approached by drunken men, both when I was alone for short periods of time and also when i was with my boyfriend.

The food was awful- maybe its me being fussy but we went to a few places and it was all really bad- one indian as well which had great reviews but was horrible.

If you do decide to go steer clear of irish bars. We went to one for a while one night and it was the roughest place ive ever been!

Sorry for being so negative- but just keep an eye out!
