Yes you need a HDTV for the best picture from the ps3...and not just any ordinary tv, you need one capable of 1080p to get the best out of the blueray drive.....budget around €4000...

You could always pick up a new xbox360, Grand theft auto and a normal hdtv for about €500...

If it's games your after go for the 360 it's got the best choice of adult games.....

That post reeks of fanboy. You could get a really good HDTV for 1000-1500 if you shop around , look for 1080p and plenty of connections , especially HDMI.
What is a normal HDTV by the way?i think 500€ is a bit ambitious.

    4 grand?? a bit over the top:p

    My setup 32" Samsung HDTV supports 1080p + PS3 bundle = E1100

Just look on ebay for a cheap 1080p dell monitor, problem solved :) HDTV = rip off.

You will need to look around the net a little for advice on how to connect it up, but I've heard it workes perfectly, and you can watch blu-ray movies too. Who needs TV (never watch the thing myself hehe)...

it will work on a non hdtv,

yes of course it will - have heard much more stupid questions but few more stupid answers

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,066 ✭✭✭thewheel2.0

Lets get something straight 1080p is not required on a T.V smaller that 32" ... anything smaller than that and its barley noticeable to the naked eye. A lot of ps3 games dont run in 1080p and are upscaled from 720p. Also i said SOME games wont work on a standard def tv. I know eventualy you are buy a HD tv but for those of you that wont be the Xbox 360 runs better in standard def than
    the PS3 does.

so we'r agreed then, a hdtv does not in fact cost €4000 :D

As a matter of interest guys, do you think the hd monitor I posted above is a good buy? Seriously thinking of getting it...

    Why is that?

its got the special 'xbox' CRT super emulation - makes your tv thinner, did you not know that? - true because you read it here!!

Anyway back to the world of reality

from an experiment myself and an employee did a few months back in an xtravision 'most' people can't tell the different between 720p and 1080p on a 40" TV, never mind a 32" one.
A lot of ps3 games dont run in 1080p and are upscaled from 720p.
Hardly any games run at 1080p aside from a few of the PSN ones and GT5 and a couple of others.
Also i said SOME games wont work on a standard def tv.
you're gonna have to back that up with some examples mate because that's just not true. I've downloaded practically everything ever released on the PSN and owned about 15 different games for the PS3 and never had ANY problems playing a single one of them on an SDTV.

look lads this argument will go on and on lets face we that own a sd will say theres not that much difference those with a hdtv will say they dont know how they lived with sd, untill we all have to have hd this will go on and on, you can play ALL games on a sd its a sad day when software companys do only release on hdtv but it wont be for at least 3 years im only going by what i read on ubisofts web site , they were going on about they hands being tied in not releasing better graphics in op coming titles as only about 12% of the buyers market was hd enabled, so people with standard def have nothing to worry about untill that hits 45%.
