UPC/NTL query

Our road has been contacted by a rep from NTL and they are asking us for permission to attach the NTL cables from our houses to a new development close by. I didn't understand the details, but has anybody heard or been asked something similar? My gut feeling is to say no, some of my neighbours have said no and others yes. What do I need to know and how could this affect me?

    Do you have UPC currently?

If not, you could ask them to provide it to you for a number of years free as a sweetener to allow them to attach the cables to your house. Get any deal in writing from them as once they have premission they will have permission forever I believe even if you sell the house on.

Of course, you can refuse them permission and there is nothing they can do regarding this. It sounds as if they can't be bothered digging up the road to lay the cable.

    +1.

But I'd go for free UPC for life not just a few years, the cables will be hanging from your house forever so why not get free UPC (make sure it's digital) for your trouble.

A friend of mine has a NTL box on their house, ever few years NTL sent out bills for service. They called up and said take the box off and we'll pay. Their still aren't not paying.

One thing to do is maybe consult a solictor to review whatever contract UPC give you, some of them grant UPC unlimited access to your land.
