With P_L and Nicky going out early enough, it took the excitement out of it but was good never the less. You can fix me up live (on the rare occasion i play these days) or you can transfer to any of my online accounts. Nice doing business Lloyd :pac:

Stephen came second but got less than 3rd and 4th? Let that be a lesson to you Stephen: don't be such a nit and be willing to agree to any deal no matter how crappy when shortstacked.:D

For those of you wondering, it was me that rejected the original deal when we were 7 handed. The proposed deal was to take a third of the prize pool and divide it in exact proportion to chip counts at that point, with some modifications that would have meant the three shorter stacks got the same amount. Given that I was nearer in chip count to the 4th biggest stack than I was to the shortest stack, I deemed this unfair. Any deal which apportions the prize pool, or a portion thereof, purely on a chip count basis is unfair to the short stacks. I suggested a different deal along the lines of the one I agreed to in the European Deepstack (as overwhelming chipleader) with half divided equally and the other half by chip count, but the then chipleader shot this down. Interestingly, the deal that was eventually agreed 5 handed was exactly along the lines I'd suggested and been told was ridiculous.

Deals are always contentious, which makes me sometimes think that there should either be an agreed standard way to chop in advance (as is done online) or that they should be just outlawed completely.

Anyway, well done to JP and his staff for running a great tournament.

Good post as usual Dara, but I strongly disagree. Understanding what is a good and a bad deal for you in a specific situation is a skill in itself. You and Sean are handy enough at it and I've been happy with deals I've negotiated for myself in tournaments I've played up to this point. I think bargaining effectively and trying to get a bad deal is just another part of the equation - and as long as people are bad at doing it I'm happy for deals to be done.

Good point, and I suppose it is more sensible to argue that deal negotiation is just an extension of the principle objective of the game of poker (to win other people's money) but personally I'm more comfortable with the idea of winning it through outplaying the guy rather than through taking advantage of his lack of understanding of expectation values and equity, or his desire to secure a certain sum because the money means more to him than it does to me, or his lack of knowledge of how deals are normally worked out. In other words, even if I was chip leader, I'd be uncomfortable with a deal that screws someone else.

Well done JP, Christine and their team but also to RockRory and his team.

The Red Cow played a stormer. Full fun of the weekend wouldn't have been possible without them entering into the spirit of the proceedings. Bar waitress Ciara was your MVP, Rory (after yourself, of course) ... how she managed to keep the double JD+Cokes coming on Friday night I'll never know ... and she was still doing the honours very late into Tuesday morning too. WP that girl :D

And nice touch for yourself in the 300. Well deserved for all your hard work through the weekend. Looking forward to the next JPs/Red Cow renewal.

So how come it's okay to get friends or family to help you in the middle of negotiations (as I did in Drogheda) but not to help you play online? :D
