    Hello.

I've been reading a few threads and posts in feedback over the last days, weeks, and months. I've seen many people get very hot and bothered and take things very personally (see some of the current threads here and in politics for examples). I've seen pictures of cats, Picard, boardscards, and many other things posted in insult and jest. I've seen people say many things, and I'm sure friendships have been tested and broken.

Boards.ie is a great interweb site. Its brilliant, its a community, its my first port of call when my puter gets turned on, and my last before it gets turned off. Its helped me in many many ways over the years ... when I was doing my thesis on OSS ... when I was buying a car in January ... when I had personal isues over the last few years. I try to give back in any way possible whenever I can (sometimes I'm not great, but trying to get better). Its a great ****1ng site ... no doubt about it!!!

But thats all it is ... an Internet site. Its not worth complaining about anything or taking anything said here too personally. Its just not worth it.

I'm someone who has taken things personally here before and I've had a few flame type wars in my time. None of them have been worth it. I could (and should) have been using my time in better ways. There are many many more important things in the real world.

So my advice is this ... the next time you feel like complaining about something or "fiteing da powah" ... DONT! The next time you are tempted to take something personally ... DONT! The next time you get upset when reading a post ... DONT! Its only the interweb! Look outside ... its a beautiful day. Go for a walk ... kick a football around ... listen to music ... look at a mountain or a tree ffs ... whatever floats your boat!

Its not worth getting upset over anything on boards.ie ... its just the Internet :D

In fairness though this forum has been the pick me up I need on many occasion. If people started following your advice life would be a little duller, a little less exciting. I'd hate to think the internet heroes would go find somewhere else to bitch, somewhere where I'd not see it.

Keep the moaning coming and keep trying to fight the power, it provides endless amusement to a lot of us I would imagine.

No definitely not complaining (I hope!).

Ok, agreed that some of the powah fighting is amusing at times, but the part where passionate people get genuinely upset is less so.

Anyway, interesting to hear some of the responses :pac: :pac: :pac:

I have an ear infection. It's very painful. Who do I complain to about that?

I agree with your post 100% Gandalf23. Sometimes they are beyond help though. You get them posting leaving boards threads and see them posting the next day, then returning with multiple re-regs.

"Game's the same, just got more fierce."

    Also, since it's feedback;

People with genuine gripes shouldn't be allowed.

Only people who think they've been oppressed - who on further inspection turn out to be complete tools, invoking much hilarity and lolcats - should be allowed, imo.

And don't forget the damn links!

I wonder what DeV thinks of feedback ?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,643 ✭✭✭Gandalf23

Just to clarify ... I was not complaining about feedback or saying it should be changed in any way. I was just suggesting that people should not get upset about anything posted here or take things too personally.

I realise there is a hardcore group of muppets who deserve what they get in feedback, but there are also some people who get dragged into personalised flame wars, and get heavily insulted with catpics etc. Why spend hours arguing pedantically over silly details with someone who you will probably never meet and who couldnt care less about you??? (This was partially inspired by the "FF churchgate collection" threads here and in politics ... lots of entrenched arguing and pedantic point scoring over the smallest points and error ... all a complete waste of time and precious life you'll never get back). Lets face it, life is too short to spend hours reading and replying to threads ... its too nice outside today! Like I said earlier, go outside and enjoy a walk ... its only the Internet ffs!

@ tbh ... stop using this thread to promote boardscasts! And time to change your sig? (the interview with DeV has already taken place, no?)

The amoutn of talking DeV did probably gave tbh the ear infection.

While I take Mr Wizards point and tend to agree, I think feedback needs whingers, where else would the lolcats go? They only have here and the thread in AH! Won't somebody pleeeesssseeee think of the Lolcats!

Foolish human, don't you know the internet runs on equal parts pornography and pure unadulterated rage? Take away either of the pillars of the information superhighway from boards and a great imbalance in the force will arise, like the sound of a few thousand nerds fapping, before being silenced.

I sometimes wonder if the vast amounts of pr0n, online shopping, pr0n and legitimately downloaded music+films really balances out the 'social networking' rubbish.

Jesus smithy, there you go complaining about those people who complain about folks who complain that other users are complaining. Consider this a complaint about that. FFS!

True enough, and sometimes the site is all the better for hearing from people who have genuine issues / gripes, be they small or big.

But no matter how worthwhile or genuine the issue, losing the head / their ability to see both sides of the story / their manners will seldom help them get their point across. Taking things too personally / getting upset is unlikely to do their own stress levels any good. Same is true in RL, tbh.

Glad to see G23 getting a bit of perspective on things! :)
