Night Of The Living Dead is awesome and the 1991 remake is pretty good too.

I have a leaning towards the remake of Dawn Of The Dead over the original, but can watch both over and over.

The original Day Of The Dead is well worth a watch, but ,in my opinion, avoid the remake at all costs. It is straight to DVD crap.

With zombie films the obvious choices tend to be the best films.

Some see the 28 days/Weeks Later films as zombie films, and if you agree with that, then give them a watch, especially the first one.

Night of the Living Dead - Where it all started.
Dawn of the Dead - Original and remake, they're both worth watching.
    Shaun of the Dead
    Return of the Living Dead
    28 Days Later
    Dellamorte Dellamore
    Reanimator
    Versus

    Try those. ;)

Brain Dead. Memorable stuff for reasons other than 'plot' or 'character development'.

If you're after pure zombie splatter action:

Night of the Living Dead (1991)
Dawn of the Dead (both versions)
    Day of the Dead
    Braindead
    Re-animator
Return of the Living Dead III, IV and V (first two are crap if you're after a 'serious' zombie movie)
    Flight of the Living Dead
    Land of the Dead
    Undead

The one film to avoid as fact rather then opinion:

    House of the Dead

Ones that feature some great scenes but ultimately a bit crap:

Zombie Flesh Eaters and it's countless sequels
    The Beyond
    Bone Sickness

I also saw a pretty funny one lately, low-budget but worth a watch, some good effects:

Check out Fido, I'm a big fan of the whole genre and found this movie to be quite good. It has a couple of bigish stars including the 'Big Yin' himself, Billy Connolly. It looks at the zombie scene from a new angle.

I second that emotion; I had heard of this through AintItCool, and wasn't expecting too much; but I'd say it's as good as "Shaun of the Dead" in terms of mixing zombie horror with comedy. That it deals with the aftermath of a zombie plague makes it further unique.

    Dawn of the Dead remake
    Shaun of the Dead
28 Days Later&28 Weeks Later(which was even better than the original I thought)
    Planet Terror

Can't believe nobodies mentioned [rec] yet? It is technically a Zombie movie and one of the best horrors i've seen in recent years.

What about Evil Dead II? Technically they are a form of zombies!

IMO the original Dawn of the Dead is the original ultimate zombie movie. It's aged now but the story to it still holds its water. Night of the living dead is very dated nowadays but still a top flick.

Although i still put my head in my hands when people say "how come the little girl picked up an axe, zombies cant do that?"

2 is the best though! ;)

Evil dead 3 (army of darkness) is ok, some great one liners but has lost the edge the previous films have.

Evil dead 1, before it goes gorey, is a pretty good attempt at establishing a horror movie.

Zombie Flesh eaters is quite something. Its pretty slow but I really like the atmosphere and it must be seen for two scenes.

One nobody has mentioned is the criminally underrated "The living dead at Manchester morgue". I rarely see it mentioned anywhere but it really is one of the best Zombie movies imo.

If we're to get technical, the remake of Dawn of the Dead isn't a zombie movie - www.zombiesdontrun.com. It is very enjoyable though.

For me the original Dawn of the Dead is the best Zombie movie ever. I've watched it at least 10 times over the last few years. A post- apocalyptic world, holed up in a shopping mall... fantastic.

Night of the Living dead and the remake are really good too. Land of the Dead was a travesty, I think Romero has gone nuts. I don't like zombies that run, but zombies using m16's? come on.

The 28 days/weeks movies aren't zombie flicks but they readily appeal to the same audience. I loved them. Well not so much the second one.

Anyone who is a fan of the genre should go over and support the zombie survival forum!
