THQ announce Legends of Wrestlemania Game

May 6, 2008 - During an afternoon investor conference call to report its 2008 fiscal earnings, THQ announced that it is working on a brand-new wrestling property for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.

It's called WWE Legends of WrestleMania, it'll star former Superstars, and it's in addition to the WWE SmackDown vs. RAW franchise. Details are still a bit hazy at this point in time, but a THQ press release says the game will arrive in March 2009 to coincide with WrestleMania 25, in Houston, Texas.

"We have generated significant year-over-year growth in key global territories with WWE-licensed videogames, including tremendous success with the WWE SmackDown vs. RAW franchise," said Peter Matiss, vice president, global brand management, THQ. "The development capabilities afforded by next generation hardware, combined with our established history and deep understanding of fighting videogames, allow us to leverage the strength of the WWE brand to further extend our leadership in the fighting videogame genre and bring this new property to market."

We'll have more for you whenever it's formally announced.

if they get the guys that made the no mercy game on the n64 then great....if not then no thanks.

I dont think it will be like No Mercy .Im pretty sure it will be along the lines of Smackdown but basically with Legends. I loved the whole idea of the Legends of Wrestling Series. Its just a Shame the games were crap.

Saying that, i am using the Legends of wrestling Textures on my no Mercy and re-creating it there, so thats pretty nifty.

I am looking forward to seeing who will be in the game now. Especially Tag Teams.

Great idea as long as they dont just stick legends into the Smackdown engine, you can do that anyway on the create a wrestler, and they better have classic ppv arenas like WM3

You know you can play that on your PC. All re-textured. Nearly looks better then a smackdown game. But plays better .

Ye, the re-textured No Mercy on PC is amazing. It's pretty class making your own roster out of the downloadable skins of different Wrestlers.

Check out this website if you's havent. I play it on my laptop using an Xbox 360 wired controller, as it has a usb connecter. It's so cool how you can make stuff like Ring Aprons in photoshop and really easily put them into the game. I'm working on a hi-res X-pac, circa-1998 at the minute.

THQ need to get the guys who did Def Jam - FFNY, and let them do a WWE based game. It would be better than the sh*t they're churning out in recent years, and probably be the closest thing one will ever get to No Mercy again.

Oh nooo thats Arcadey then SVR . They need more of a simulation type game.

No , because thats not the kind of similation i am talking about. I am talking about the game itself. Its too Smash mouth and predictable and they need to get away from this.
Sounds crazy but they need to take out the user reversals and put in auto reversals . They should also have it were 1 big move could swing the match. But also trying to pull off that big move is difficult and could loose you the match. Basically No Mercy !

It would be awesome to have a legend GM mode, but I just have a feeling THQ will try & differ this game from SVR.

THQ don't make the SD games, they publish them. Yukes are the people that actually make the games. Unless Yukes have taken on a lot of new staff for this project then I don't see them making this game on top of SD. THQ could have a different dev make the legends game. An example of this is the Call of Duty series. Infinity ward developed the first 2 games, treyarch made the third, infinity ward made the fourth and as far as I know treyarch are developing the fifth. Its all just so Call of duty games can be released more often.

There's our problem folks, we're too busy living in the past. No Mercy is a game nearing 10 years old. We're not getting it again. Stop hoping, stop praying, it's as likely to happen as a Bret Hart comeback.

And we know what our chances are there.

Living in the past , This game has no advertising , yet still has a huge fan base. Every other wrestling game that has been released has been has been compared to No Mercy .

Come to think about it, its a bit like Bret Hart. Bret is happily retired has not been on TV yet still has a huge fan base. When it comes to Shawn Michaels handing it to him , lets get serious, Michaels in a real fight wouldnt last longer then Valid reasonings thumbs playing Smackdown

I wouldn't mind, but since investing in a PS3, i've gotten used to the horrible shape of Playstation controllers. Of course Dre, i wasn't the one accused of cheating on SVR 07 on xbox live because you're a professional button masher!

As for Shawn v Bret, who still has a job, who can still work in the ring, and why?

Well here is the first look of the game. Its a bit cartoony its the game play that counts . Really i just want to see the roster . If thats any good , i will get the game.
Still cant wait for the UFC game though .

I rather see them include a "New York Nite Club" match, where the player can reinact Shawn getting his ass handed to him

or in the GM mode, include Vince's showers, where the player can reinact Shawn going to visit him...:D

With its release date in march and SVR being released in a few months and we still dont have a full roster, to have any teasers for LOW says that theyre committed to making it good?

I'd say it will be the new style that they are incorporating into the upcoming SD!vR. They have nearly finished that game and apparently the controls aren't all brand new, they have tweaked it quite a bit.
I really can not see Yukes going backwards in its style.

Some editor at IGN.com has played it and he says that compared to last years dismal anti-climax (after THQ saying they had developed a much better Move/Reversal/Move system which was anything but),
He has said its a great new "pick up and play, less button basher"
