I bought this today but think I may be doing something wrong ..... or its rubbish...or I need some additional software....or

I got it too put my DVD's onto this and then connect it to my LCD tv but twice it has given me a "cyclical redundant" error - does anyone know what this means??

I attached it to my PC and am copying the files directly from the DVD onto it (there is no guidance for this either in the box or on their website btw), it is taking about 35 mins. Is their a quicker way to copy your dvds apart from selecting all of the files and dropping them into the destination folder??

The cyclical redundancy error is to do with a limitation with the hard drives file system. It's probably fat 32. Fat 32 file system doesn't allow files over 4GBs. This is why you get the error. You can format the drive in ntfs and this will solve the 4GB limit.

This isn't really neccessary though. When people rip dvds they usually compress them so they take up less space. See here (http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2054971677 and go to 6 How to back up dvds) for information on how to do this.

    Thanks for your help!

I can sense this is not going to be as easy as the man in the shop told me.........anyway, I will have a go at ripping the dvd's and see what happens. If you rip them what format are they saved as (I assume you have a choice?)

This is what the media player supports:
    Media files supported: 1.Subtitle: SRT,SSA,SMI 2.Audio: MP3 ,WMA,AAC,DTS 3.Video:MPEG1/2/MPEG4.XVID.DIVX.VCD.DVD(*.mpg;*.mpeg;*.dat;*.avi;*.vob;*.ifo) 4. Image: JPEG,MJPEG Memory cards supported: CF.SD.MS. MMC.XD in FAT32 or FAT16 format

I finally finished backing up my dvd but now i have lots of files - all contained in Audio_TS and Video_TS folders. It is v. unuser friendly....I presume if I rip the dvd this will give me one file??

I have tried ripping dvds to put on my iPod but it takes forever and sometimes I seem to get the wrong file converted..how do you know what files to rip to make a backup?

    (thanks in advance)

It depends on the software you use. Usually you can select the format/quality etc. The most common format would be .avi (you hard drive supports this too). When you back the dvd up it will convert all the video files and audio files into one video file. Ripping dvds will take a while because they are big files so patience will be needed.

The best thing to do is google How to rip dvds and you should get a load of results. Your bound to find a guide that you find easy to follow.
