oh guys , am putting kids to bed, doing homework, having my tea, sorting out compost reports...sorry.
I am looking to set up a wireless connection from a laptop to a D LINK router..........
also.I thought the connection was from Eircom, however I also thought that D link was supplied by TALK TALK??
So question, if I don't have a disc to run drivers and find out what the wireless key is, where would I get one....
    thanks again,.Cathy

You don't seem to know who your broadband provider is. Do you? If so it would be best to post that up here.

Trying to decipher this . Are you looking for the software for your D-Link router ? If you dont have the CD that came with the router go here and type in the appropriate info ( model number , etc )

    http://www.dlink.ie/?go=jN7uAYLx/oIJaWVdDLgYU93ygJVYLelXSNvhLPG3yVjoUYppxu5vbMYkOfsxsXg6VHqqnHtD85pJVJ23gKHtOQ5A8ruEbIq3DNC89DUInMpMFP4=

As for a keygen - you don't need one (and wouldnt get a keygen on boards in any case ) . The only thing I can guess is that you are looking for an encryption key for your network . If that's the case you just create one yourself (make sure you take note of it as you'll need to use the same key for all members of the network ) .

I think what she needs is to access the router interface and get the wireless encryption key.

The best way to do this is to wire the router to a PC or laptop with a patch lead and http to the routers IP address. You'll get the router's IP address by opening the network properties sheet for your LAN - Control Panel, Network and then Local Area Network and click the details tab. The router's IP will be the gateway address.

You then open Internet Exploder and type in "http://router IP" in the address bar. The system is menu driven from there.

I think I know what you're getting at... If the wireless D-link router is new then it shouldn't have a key password to connect to the wireless router.

Now, if you want to set one up, you'll have to connect directly to one of the ports at the back with an ethernet cable, which looks like a cable with a large phone cable end on each end...

    1. connect your laptop/pc directly to a port in the back of the wireless router. The default ip address of wireless routers is usually 192.168.0.1
    2. open up an internet explorer window and type 192.168.0.1 in the address bar. this should open up a kind of settings window for your wireless router. Here, you can change the encryption type and change your keys etc. There's other functionalities too but nothing you should have to worry about.
    3. if the wireless router has already been used or configured previously, you should get a pin and press the reset button in the back of it. Actually, I'd recommend you do this as a new step 1 so you know where you're starting from.

These steps will only connect your laptop to your wireless D-link router, it doens't mean that you will now have access to the internet. To do this you will have to connect your Netopia box to your D-link box with the same ethernet cable used earlier....

Now, if tI got it totally wrong and this is not what you're looking for, ignore all of the above :P

I think this is the answer you're looking for alright. It'll be something like: http://192.168.1.1 or http://192.168.1.100 or similar. If you need USB drivers, you should head for the manufacturers website, or the talk talk website (or eircom?).

Anyway, I'm going to move this to the wireless forum. You'll probably get a better answer there.

    Good luck.
