This gang of young ones down south yesterday need to be applauded. 4 of them got the World Junior Standard yesterday. Yes, the wind was favourable but they still had to run the times. Kalyn Sheehan is closing in on the Junior record for the 400 hurdles which is great but I'm half hoping she doesn't as it held by a good friend of mine:). Mairead Murphy could go sub-14 and if so we may have someone if she continues to progress who can start to follow in DOR's footsteps. Bear in mind there is another young one in Kildare called Sandra Lawlor who is running pretty fast over the hurdles too. Then the sprinters, whats going on there, mental stuff. Two qualifiers already with Niamh Whelan leading them off. Joan Healy is only 16 and has qualified for Worlds U20:eek: Hannah Lewis could go fast too as she has a 24.88 indoors and then Sarah Lavin is only 14 (am I right in presuming she is only 14?) and ran 25.1:eek: indoors. Are we entering a golden age of Irish womens sprinting? Has it ever been this good? Oh yeah, throw in Pamela Hughes in the high jump. The wimmin don't usually get enough credit and many times its focussed on the boys and middle distance at that. Right now, the women are on fire. May it continue.

    Applause! :D

Brid Golden and her hubby can take a lot of credit for the development of Athletics in Ferrybank and in the area's schools. I hope their success continues.
