    Hey there,

I was considering running a 10k in Cork this month, but I see now that the BHAA have a 10k in Kildare. That would suit me much better I think. However, the race in Cork is accurately measured and last year's winner ran a very fast time. So before I decide to run the BHAA race instead, I'd like to make sure that the distance is accurate etc. Can anyone here help? If not, not to worry, there are contact numbers on the BHAA site.

    Thanks!

This is the first year of the intel 10k as it has always been a 8k race. I am sure that the course is accurate, it is 3 laps of the Intel campus which would be easy enough to measure accurately.
I don't think you would set any pb's at this one as there is a hill at the back of the campus and you have to run it 3 times which makes it a bit tougher

Brilliant, thanks. How serious are these hills? It's rarely you'd get a fully flat 10k on the road anyway.

Is entry to this race open to anyone or only those affliated to BHAA in some way?

Unless things have changed with BHAA you can enter on the day or join as a member. The entry fee is lower for members.

Ok, well the race is on the same weekend as another 10k in Youghal. The winning time in the Youghal race last year was 30:13 on a 'fast flat' course apparently (measured by Jones' Counter). Youghal is quite a trek for me, but I want the best chance of running a good time. My pb is 33:59 from Tinryland. Do you know how hilly the course at Intel is? Or what the level of competition is likely to be like? Will the course be precisely measured?

the last 2 races where 5 milers and the winners well under 26 mins. have a look at the results page on http://www.bhaa.ie
I would think the winner would sneak under 30. The hill is, if I remeber in the car park, its nothing massive, but i like hills I allways pick off runners on them. I would not worry about it not being 10K , Intel are are very good team, they will have all that sorted out. Can any one else tell him if its a fast race or not. It seems grand but not the fastest .

I would consider it to be a fast course.

Most of the guys who normally win the bhaa races early in the year probably won't run it though as they are generally concentrating on the track. That explains why the winning times for the 5 miles in the past are a bit slower than normal also.

The hill from the car park is short and tough and won't effect your time too much. Apart from that the course is as flat as a pancake. Definitely worth a bash and its location will help you run a PB as it is on your door step.

You know where I live?! :)

Sounds like a nice course, well I'd be more worried about the times at the abckend of the field myself, but think i'll give this a blast and see how clsoe to 50 mins I can get.

After a 1hr 03 time in the bupa run... I think a 53 min's would be ok progress...

I might consider doing this, did bupa 10k in 50:50 but be training more now for the marathon, long runs 9m for may. When is it on?

Is there a way to get to the starting line for the Intel 10km via public transport? I'm in Dublin city centre. Thanks!

The Dublin-Maynooth Arrow service goes via Leixlip, also the various 66 Dublin Bus services go to Leixlip. I'm not sure where the starting line is though.

The Bhaa races are usually top class..And very well run.The only thing is, the prizes at certain races are poor. None of us are in it for the money but sometimes you can leave with a bad feeling after getting a poor quality ill fitting top for breaking your ass and giving up a day to support it. Perhaps the Bhaa could give cash for top three and maybe 1st master etc..I recently got such a prize and left thinking.."wont do that again"!
It really depends on what race you do,but you learn from experience the good ones..

    Violator13,

Not being up there with yourself I don't get to see what the winners get but have seen some envelopes given out as prizes. I alslo got €40 recently for getting a place in a recent winter league so maybe there is cash for the race elites. I would imagine that it is down to the individual race organisers to decide.

In fairness to the BHAA you can't really be expecting a great prize if all you are paying is a tenner.

Like you said for the vast majority of us these races are "usually top class..And very well run"

If there's a decent size field it's bad form not giving decent prizes to the top 3. The BHAA does have a lot of grades to cover etc. though so they may be spread a little thin. Still, you'd wonder how some organisers expect to attract decent quality into their races.

Just back from doing this. Compliments to the organisers. Well organised and the cup of tea afterwards was very welcome. Had to work hard due to the wind and that hill but otherwise i enjoyed it.

Just back now myself now, was going rand for about 6 k then fell apart, really found the last 3 k hard and the hill at the end killed me , but sill all in all happy enough , ran 1hr 03 in bupa and got that down to 57, but was hoping for a 54 min, and was on course at half way with 26:40, so jsut need more miles in the legs i guess.

Well its better then my last few races at least when i did get tired i was able to dig in an puch a bit harder to stay with the people that went by me, and still had them in my sights in the last k, i'd say i've go at least 4 mins to come of that time,

I enjoyed the race, was quite disappointed with my time tho - hopefully the strong winds were to blame! It's great the way BHAA get the results up on the net so quick.

Definitely a slow course on Saturday. The ramps and kerbs didn't help and the wind was a killer. I ran about a minute slower than I would have expected.
