Working illegally

Is there anything I can do if I suspect that someone is living/working illegally in this country? They came over here on a tourist visa and have overstayed and are working illegally cash-in-hand.

The next question I guess is would I want to? This person caused me great amounts of grief and stress a few years ago, so I guess part of me wants petty revenge.

    Advice? Thanks.

It's possible to report them but you won't feel good about yourself for doing it.
Only PART of it is petty revenge?I don't think so...
And being deported won't feel like a 'petty' thing to them!

Do It. He probably wants to go home anyway but cant afford the flights. You'd be doing him a favor.

Don't do it - you'll only hate yourself afterwards and you won't be able to undo it.

Don't do it, I'm sure whatever he did its not worth it. You would be the bad guy then and I doubt you will ultimately get much satisfaction out of it.

It depends on what this guy did though.Causing somebody grief is wrong and I know two wrongs don't make a right but a negative and a negative make a plus.I'd like to know what kind of grief was caused in the past so that we/he can make proper informed judgements.

The OP would be getting "petty" revenge but also doing the right thing in terms of making sure these people breaking the law are found out and punished.Even if the OP does it,he may not feel better but he can be assured he did the right thing in accordance with the law.

We have laws in this country which protect those individuals in the labour force. This cash in hand arrangement runs rough shod all over these peoples rights.

    Agreed

He's Not contributing to this country in way of Tax, so why should he reep the benifits?

Hmm thanks alot for the replies so far.

I really can't get into what this person did to me, but it left me on a really low ebb for months afterwards and even to this day I'm not really over it. There is a real sense of bitterness there.

I have thought long and hard about what it would feel like if I caused them to be deported and I think at this stage, I wouldn't feel bad about it. That could change after the event though.

There is part of me though that thinks that the past should stay in the past and life should go on. I'm finding that hard to do though.

In school Kelly. It is said to be wrong in order to do this for personal revenge.Vindictiveness consensually is wrong but legal morality and protecting workers in this country and catching tax evaders is right.

Thats why I used the negative-negative construct.

If somebody messed me about where i was left feeling bitter i'd have them deported in an instant, give us an idea as what they done on you as thats the most interesting bit of the story! plus nobody knows who you are..

Fair enough depends24 - and well put.

I do think the real issue of this post is OP's motivation though.

Since the inclusion into the EU of just about everybody I thought there were no illegal workers left!

If you really want to do it you can just ring the Garda Confidential number. You should be aware though that deportation proceedings can take months(even years) so if this person finds out it was you who made the call then it could lead to even more hassle for yourself
