Anchorman 2

    Just read this on IMDB:
    IMDB wrote:
Will Ferrell is set to return as 1970s newsman Ron Burgundy in a sequel to hit comedy Anchorman. Director Adam McKay announced his plans for a second Anchorman film during an interview with website Collider.com over the weekend. He revealed, "Will and I are like, 'Let's do Anchorman 2,' so you're talking, like, in two years, maybe we'll do it. But we're going to do it, for sure. We're dying to do it." McKay insists the only thing that will scupper sequel plans will be if he and Ferrell cannot bring the original cast back. He adds, "That's always kind of a tricky thing. But, I think, with that cast we're all friends, so yeah, we want to do it."

Although I'd love to see a sequel, I can't help be a little apprehensive that it'll fail to capture any of the magic of the original. But I'm sure it'll have a few laughs at least.

Anchorman will be hard to top, but with Will Ferrell, you never know!

technically there already has been a "sequal" of sorts of anchorman, using footage from the cutting room floor of the first movie, its called "wake up ron burgandy" anyone seen it? ive heard its pretty decent!

It's not! I spent a good chunk of change buying it. It's a subplot that was cut out of Anchorman padded out with alternate takes of stuff in the movie. It's very weird - I could barely watch it the once, but I couldn't count how many times I've watched Anchorman. I think it may be on youtube.

    "Milk was a bad choice"

Thought Wake Up Ron Burgandy was hilarious, myself. Not as funny as Anchorman, but still had me in stitches in part. Plus, it's also fun trying to figure out where the scenes go (but I'm tedious like that).

I thought that Anchorman was part of a triology. Anchorman being the first, The legend of Ron Burgandy. Talledega nights the second, The Ballad of Ricky Bobby. I can't remember where I read this but there was to be a third with the main characters initials being RB. Anyone else hear this?

oh dear, I can see this crashing and burning like so many british princesses

Yeah its the Mediocre American Man Trilogy.

I think the trilogy will be finished before Anchorman 2, but really a sequel kind of ruins the whole idea of having this trilogy... I'll reserve judgement until I hear some sort of plot outline

Ugh one Anchorman was bad enough.

    Did you mean improvised?

    I did indeed.

I didn't like Anchorman all that much. Sure it had one liners, but that was basically it. So a sequel would be a bit stupid, nothing more than being a cash cow.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,820 ✭✭✭grames_bond

i think they could ruin the original by bringin out a sequal....i hope they dont but they could use too much of their shtick which would overdo it completely!

I knew the whole film before I even saw it from people bloody quoting it the whole time!

Anchorman 2...Some people say Will Ferrell gets old. I'm not one of those people! Semi-Pro was gold. I will eagerly await this inevitably excellent movie.

Semi-Pro is only good if you're looking for something to fertilise the ground with. I think I laughed once during that film

    Same here.
Saw it for the first time last night and it barely raised more than a grin out of me the whole time. Tripe.

+1 Same as like after hearing all the fuss about it I was expecting to be on the floor laughing, instead, I found it boring and not that funny (AT ALL)

    It's no Borat............

Semi-Pro was the worst of Ferrells movies but it still has his moments and great one-liners like all his films. Granted it seems like his films are similiar but its because he is aiming it at the same audience. Its a proven formula, why change?

As for anchorman, its my favorite film, an absolute classic. In almost every scene there is a brilliant one-liner. Dunno about anchorman 2, hard to beat the orginal.

And dellboy there is only so many times i can watch a man in a green thong say "i like i like"...

The first time I watched Anchorman I wasn't exactly blown away but it's a serious grower. It can't be judged on first viewing in my opinion. I'd recommend a second viewing, and then a third, and so on. You'll loose count fast.

Anchorman is like a fine wine, gets better and better with age, much like Zoolander as well actually, and even Austin Powers.

Anchorman is prob my favourite movie ever. Random lines, just were so funny.

60% of the time, it works everytime"
    "I wanna be on you..."
    "Baxter my little gentleman..."
"I have many leatherbound books and my apartment smells of rich mahogany"

actually im not even mad...thats amazin
    i love lamp
im in a glass case of emotion

Hey everybody come see how good I look!
I'm kind of a big deal...people know me.

"What do you say we go on a date, maybe have some chicken, some sex...you know, see what happens.

Bring on Anchorman 2, if its half as good as the 1st, it'll do well

    Borat earned over $250 million
    Anchorman earned $90 million

    Borat Production Budget $18 million
    Anchorman Production Budget $26 million

    I say no more

And Clerks cost a few thousand dollars and it's better then both! :D

Of course a films budget has absolutely no relevance to how good it is, some of the most expensive films of all time have been terrible.

I have a bad feeling about this, Anchorman is an all time classic IMO and so was Airplane, anybody remember what happened to that sequel? The main prob is that Ferrell has got a bit lazy since Anchorman - Blades of Glory, Talladega Nights and Semi-Pro were all an extension of that same delusional, ultra-male sleazeball, but less funny (did love BOG though). He should really be trying to cover new ground or different characters rather than take the easy route. I wouldn't mind Anchorman 2 a few more years down the line but not yet, if you think how many times they've recycled jokes from that type of character lately there can't be much left

While Airplane!2 wasn't as good it still has imo possibly one of the greatest 'rofl' moments in any movie involving Shatner, a tv screen & a door.

zoolander is a blatant plagarism of the bret easton ellis novel glamorama, so i really do not like it, like with a comedian, i lose a rediculous amount of respect if the material isnt original (it wasnt even if they paid respect to it and admited it, they pretended they wrote it-rediculous)

you are right about anchorman and austin powers, both the same funny/silly genre that gets better every time you see them!

If you thought semi-pro was the worst of his films, i'm guessing you never had to sit through kicking and screaming! for the record i thought semi-pro was great (not to mention I think "love me sexy" is an infectious tune that i could listen to all day long. pure genius.)

I thought the whole Glamorama-Zoolander thing was the other way around? Maybe I'm wrong. Some quick googling could let me know... Nope. Not arsed.

I read Glamorama recently, finished it yesterday in fact. And Zoolander is loosely based on it. They just took the basic idea of Models being terrorists.

In Glamorama Ellis focused on how hollow and vapid models lives can be and then the character gets drawn into a world of murder, hotel bombings, poisoning swimming pools, rape and incredible violence!

While there is a connection, its minimal. There was an out of court settlement between the Zoolander people and Ellis though

ANYWAY...Anchorman 2, it will either be ****ing awesome of a complete flop

No i didnt sit through it or that bewitched one! what i meant in that post was, the worst of his recent films. ie Talladega, Blades of Glory and Semi-Pro.

haha not at all, derek zoolander basically was victor ward (from glamorama) and like it says above there was an out of court settlement that knopf (the publishers) settled even tho BEE wanted to go the full way and sue!

sorry about that back on topic, i am nervous about anchorman 2.....i think he could ruin a great character!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 854 ✭✭✭JangoFett

Whoa whoa, Derrick Zoolander was a complete moron, Victor was just a bit silly compared to Zoonlander. He just didn't pay attention to anything, Zoolander was lacking part of his brain

why is everyone mentioning talladega nights as a weak link! i thought it was hilarious.. i could hardly call it a step down and the same with blades of glory.. excellent. really looking forward to this movie and if it turns out to be poor then i'll go straight back to the first one!:D

I thought Talladega Nights was weaker than Blades of Glory. Semi Pro was way better than the two of them, definitly a step up!

****ing great movie! You can tell Zapp Branagin from Futurama is lifted completely from Shatner's character.

I thought Talladega was better than Blades of Glory in spite of Cohen. I thought he was terrible in it. Although BoG is still growing on me. :D
