    This old chestnut again.
Just read an interview with Michael Emerson (Ben) in the paper over the weekend. He said that he was originally only supposed to appear in the 2 or 3 eps where he was captured.
So having said that, if all storylines are planned how come this was the case?
Considering he has become such a major part of the storyline.
Also I hope we don't just have a revenge drama now i.e. Ben's daughter,
it seems that the writers have latched on to this now as the driving storyline idea after having been in search of a point for the whole thing up to now?

From what I understand they got him for 2 or 3 episodes as a tester. They liked the idea of having the leader being captured by the survivors but for them not to know it and they specifically went after Emerson for the role and long term they wanted to use him but if it didn't happen to work out then they had a plan and someone else would have come forward as the leader.

Well the whole show was only suppost to last up to 3-4 series max, but when it became popular they threw in a few more to cash in. They have now stated that it will end in the 09/10 season but this should have come far sooner

Doesn't mean the story arc would have to change that much really , I thought it was originally meant to be 5 seasons but that it was changed to 6 with the last 3 series being 16 eps instead of 2 seasons with 24?To be honest I'm happy enough with the pacing as you can now see how the series will probably evolve over season 5 and 6

Not true. There's no evidence to suggest they ever considered less than a 100 episodes. Even in the pilot stage they talked about "5 or 6 years". Later on 5 became the magic number. But ABC wanted 6 full seasons. The writers refused, hence the current compromise. When the show ends in 2010 the total episodes will be 117.
