Eva Braun - Heaven or Hell

While watching Downfall again the last night a thought that has often gone through my mind came back to me. What is Eva Brauns place in history or more so where is she now? Was she a willing accomplace to one of the most evil men in history, did she know the full extent of what Hitler was planning and then doing, did she know about the extermination of the jews, did she know about the gas chambers and the ovens, the unofficial orders to treat all Russians as combatants, military or civilian, did she know the extent Hitler was willing to go to to secure his final victory? Or was she just another innocent German caught up in all the hype of the 30's, when a country on its knees was shown the light by a vibrant, enthusiastic young war veteran. The man who brought Germany off its knees and showed the people that they could be great once again, a man who convinced millions of germans, young and old, man and woman to join up into its various organisations, ready to swear a pledge to die for him. Millions of german women would have swaped places with Eva Braun in a second, could a woman so brainwashed by this man have been able to see the reality of what was really happening.
From reading a few books about hitler, especially Traudl Junge's "Till the final hour", Hitler is shown as a man of two halves, the murderous dictator and the warm, gentle, considerate boss and boyfriend who never discussed his business outside the office. From the account in this book you could be understood for thinking he was a really nice man, you have to remind yourself of the other side of him.

what I got from that movie was how trapped in the lunacy they were. any sane person would have tried to get out of berlin.

Love is blind. Not only did she not want to get out of Berlin but she came to berlin to die with Hitler.

There is an exellent German documentary on Eva Braun.By rights she was just a gullible dumb Blonde in a nutshell.Just the way Adolf liked his women.The Aryan ideal,blonde,big boobed,blue eyed dumb,loyal,baby producers and good hausfrau..
She had no clue about what Adolf was up to,or anything about the day to day running of the Reich.Adolf set her up with a villa in Munich,a expense account [and a home movie camera obviously going by all the pics from Berchtsgarten.]Trips with her girlfriends to Paris and Rome in their personal JU52 was the order of the day. Hitler orderd her to stay away from Berlin as the Russians closed in.She snuck back in with great difficulty ,and wrote to her sister and mother that her place was at the Furhers side and she would die with him if necessary.Hitler awarded her her loyality by marring her in the bunker,as he said himself everyone else including the German people had betrayed him bar all the women that knew him personally.
Magda Gobbells,his secetarial staff,Eva Braun,Hanna Reitsch,and his dog Blondie,whom Eva Braun persaonally hated.
