Hi all, just looking for some advice and recommendations on possible avenues of work I could retrain and pursue.

I became stressed, frustrated and fed up of my previous career in procurement (14 yrs or so) and decided to take the leap of faith into the unknown and gave it up.

My plan is now to retrain whilst working (working in a no frills office position to earn the pennies) - when I say retrain my plan is to choose a degree through the OU (distance learning) in conjunction with the area I wish to get into. I would hope that the specific degree would enable me to start work and other training required could be carried out whilst I worked in the new job.

I have looked into building services engineering as a possible route I'm interested in...from what I can see there are many directions to go in this field and the work is varied (dependant on what field I train in) - I have been looking at roles that are not 100% office based, are rewarding and varied...
has anyone opinions on this or advice on alternative options?

I will be contacting the relevant professional bodies to find out the best route to approved qualifications..etc ..

I think there might be a night course in DIT Bolton Street to get a diploma in Building Services Engineering. Might be cheaper, better and more widely recognised.

It's a good career, however some of the guys I went to college with who went on to do building services said it was a bit repetitive I think - basically working out the aircon requirements for offices over and over, though that may not be the rule and if you have an interest in it you should be grand.
