Every paper I've picked up this weekend has had this as one of their major stories, what do you all think?

Miley Cyrus one photo could threaten a billion dollar career.

Mr. Sitrick added: "Am I missing something here? I have three daughters -- none of them rock stars, admittedly, but please. You can create a crisis where there was none; it depends how it's managed.

It's all popstar hype. Chances are, everyone involved knew this could happen, and they could afford to let it happen. Look who has her photo everywhere, showing of her 'sexy' body.

It amazes me that Disney don't own her soul for the kind of money she is being paid.
You would think that any p.r. would have been controlled by them........I personally can't see what all the fuss is about but i guess in certain strictly religious parts of america it would be frowned upon. I think she received bad advice as well....at 15 there is no need for that type of photo....but then if I was a 15 year old with more money in the bank then I will ever need I probably would be doing things outside the permitted norm of reality as well!

Yep smells like a PR stunt to me.. American star images are controlled to the very last detail and the idea that something like this could be done without her advisors/disney not knowing is stretching it just a bit.
To be honest not a lot of people outside the tween/teen bracket knew about her before this furore.. Look at the amount of people who are now aware of "brand Miley Cyrus" now.
She's reaching the point where shes not going to be marketable to the teen market and will emerge as another hollywood starlet, this is the perfect way to announce to the world.
    Just my two cents worth..

    +1

It's all just a made up "scandal" to try and sell more papers/ magazines/ cd's or whatever it is that she does.

It's probably a deliberate change in direction for Miley Inc, expect a new single or movie role shortly.

God you are all very cynical, here was innocent me wondering how a vast army of PR folks could have got it so wrong, even after they allowed the shoot to go ahead with Annie Leibovitz for Vogue, a combination known for their provocative front covers.

TBH I can't see any problem with the shot, and while I'm sure that loads of folks wish it had never been published , I'm glad to see that a photograph (and of course photographer) can still cause such a storm, even if it is in a teacup.

I have to admit that I was amused by the comment from one american in one of the papers,

    "I voted twice for Bush
I invested my money in Bear Stearns
and I bought my kids loads of Hannah Montana merchandise
    what do I do now?"

    :D

    Vote Bush again?

I'd never heard of the little twerp before today. Guess I have now though. I think my daughter (12) has heard of her but she's got a good head on her shoulders. Biggest photography story? I don't think so somehow.

I'm sure we can come up with a few suggestions .... long walk, short pier come to mind to start with. :D

It's a very staged storm. These images were taken, proofed, reviewed and obviously agreed upon before release. No one just takes picts and then they appear in magazines. It's all a bit too staged for my liking.

I blogged it during the week. I have to say my problem is that I don't think the photograph is great to be honest. Not the sum of its parts anyway. Very Lolitaesque but doesn't quite make it, very technically proficient but also very cold.

What I would say is this though - no matter how staged they were, I am not sure any 15 year old is emotionally equipped to deal with the resulting brooha.

to be fair they knew what type of photo was gonna be taken by Annie Lebowitz (famous for the pregnant Demi Moore on the front of Rolling Stone), just in case anyone doesn't know.

I thought this thread would be about something exciting, like Canon's master cost list. :[

More seriously, I love the style of the photo and the colour tones.

I think it is a good photo ... as with Fenster I like the colour tones ... there is a vulnurabilty in the pose which is a little disturbing when you consider she is 15 ... but for me photos are good when they provoke ...

EDIT - when you look at the other "apple sauce" pictures of her in the article you can understand why this would cause a bit of a stir though ... I personally think this kind of photo is a little unnecessry for a 15 year old ... even if it does show that we all have to grow up at some point.

Having said all of that I have a 16 year old niece ... if I saw her in a photo like this I don't know how I'd react having seen her grow up from a little baby ... that would probably upset me a bit ... but I'm sure I'd get over it.
