24 Season 1 inconsistancies

Okay, recently started watching it, and am hooked. Up to mid-season 4 now.

For those who haven't seen Season 1, spoilers follow.

Anyways, I found the whole Nina Myers twist at the end to be extremely annoying. Not because she kills Terri, but just because a lot of her actions, and the amount of assistance she provides to Jack do not seem to make sense in retrospect. I can understand her helping him in the first half, but not afterwards. There are lots of small paradoxes that felt unresolved though I don't remember them all in detail.

Also, did Gaines know about her involvement? If so why does he ask Jack to shoot her? How did he know that Jack woulnd't have done what he was told and shoot her in the head, that was a big risk to take? Maybe he saw the flak jacket on the camera, even so. It seemed an obvious out.

Jamie's actions also don't make sense. It is implied that Nina was the one who recruited her and got her to install the the observation software. Surely Jamie had to know that she was a threat to Nina and Nina's actions would have seemed contradictary to her. Why did she not ask for protection from Nina from Tony? She had to know that Nina was not going to allow her to expose herself.

I got the feeling that they just wanted to throw in a big twist and shocking ending, and didn't care if it really made sense, hung together or not. Which IMO it didn't. It went beyond merely "stretching," the story. I can see that from Season 2 on they take a lot more care to not have this kind of unbelieable twisting to the tale, and the surprises are more in line and make "sense," at least more than Season 1.

What do you vets think about this? I'm sure this topic must have come up at some point b4.

I assumed that Gaines and Jamie weren't aware and I imagine she was told to aid CTU as much as possible to gain everyone's complete trust. She may also have had real feelings for Jack.

Seemed to me she had real feelings for Jack, but yeah - wasn't a huge fan of the
    Nina
twist at the end. Would have preferred if someone else was the insider (
oh, and I know it was sickly sweet, but I'd have preferred the alternative ending where Terri didn't die, as - at least - it would have meant she could have had a recurring role in future series
    )

I really have to watch season 1 again. I have forgotten bits of it.

    Terry was crap anyway.

Gaines and Jamie had no idea about Nina because they didn't hire her.

As far as they were concerned the only plan to assasinate Palmer was their plan

The alternate ending just didn't have the same impact! But thinking about how different the second would have been is interesting...

    Of course
    Nina
did then make a decent adversary in the 2nd and 3rd series...

Indeed she did. They were also very wise to end both the Nina and Sherry plotlines when they did, bringing either back again would've been too much.

Is there any real need for spoilers in this thread? What exactly is someone going to read here other than the spoilers?

Anyway, the Nina twist didn't make sense because they just tacked it on later in the series. Her character wasn't written as a double agent initially so her actions don't add up.

Pepe! SP has a helluva nice dart station!

I loved season 1. No other season had the same element of desperation to it. I mean theres no nuclear threat or anything but because its even more so from Jack's perspective you really get the feeling of desp.

Yeah clearly Gaines/Jamie didn't know about Teri. She was a pain anyway and was happy to see her go
