Looking for films that....

You know those films where some bohemian free-spirit comes along and whisks the female lead away from her uncaring boyfriend (eg "Titanic" / "City of Angels" et al). The pair spend the rest of the movie demonstrating their love in a way that cannot be construed as an affair because she really loves the hippy and is unhappy with her s/o. Very important distinction!

Well I'm looking for films that use this plot device ONLY IN REVERSE! Are there any films out there about a GUY who conducts an affair with a 3rd party but ISN'T made out to be a bad guy for cheating on his g/f?

Personally I can't think of any and am interested to hear if you guys know of any.

Haven't seen it, but I think 'A Guy Thing'
Also 'The Wedding Planner'. Hardly classics, but can't think of any more off the top of my head....

What about The Graduate? First Mrs Robinson, then her daughter. Or Manhattan, where Woody Allen dates two different women, and a 17-year-old student...

Yeah but in either of them are Hoffman/Allen portrayed as being justified in their actions?

In The Graduate - I thought so, since the mother was too old for him, the daughter was a more sensible girlfriend. As for Manhattan... it's a Woody Allen film, nothing his characters do is ever that simple, but the 17-y.o. was too young for him.

Read this thread a few days ago and thought about it while I was watching Enchanted last night.

Strange that one of the only movies that reverses the situation is a Disney film.

The dude has an affair in enchanted?

    Must check that out then.

Op it's tough to find a movie with that slant because most romantic/rom com movies are aimed at women. I mean, you hardly ever see a movie where you have a 'single, independent man doing his thing, yet he still needs a woman to justify his existence'.
Sorry for the hijack, but it really gets on my wick :o

What about ..... hairspray? Is the main dancer chap going out with the producers daughter? Before he gets hooked up with Tracey?

I think you'll find it more in teen movies where the good girl steals the boyfriend away from his bitch/cliquey girlfriend.

not a film. look at The Shield. the main character is screwing around all overthe place on his wife, but then again he is also killing cops and criminals. he is a cop himself, but the show doesnt really care if you like him or not

Maybe 'Falling in Love' with Robert De Niro and Meryl Streep.

I cant really remember the plot but i remember De niros character having an affair with streep and his wife being kind of an obscure background figure in his unfulfilled life.

    Lame example I know

Maybe not quite not what you have in mind but Sleepless In Seattle and You've Got Mail kind of have these devises. Horny Ol Tom Hanks may not be shagging bewitching Meg Ryan while having a girlfriend/date but he sure is thinking about it.
Im sure there's some delightful porn around with that plot line somewhere.

Actually wait - that Ben Stiller movie that was out recently - The Heartbreak Kid. Wasn't that the plot line?
