Fantastic approach from the sand! If he rolls that putt in I can't see him being caught.

Jesus... Some putt... Would be nice to see Garrido win in fairness as I always hate to see a golfer who's been near the top level (Ryder Cup etc) fall into near oblivion... Having said that, I hope Peter pulls it out of the bag...

    Fingers crossed...

In the bunker on the second playoff hole... Still it's not a bad angle and he played a hell of a shot there in regulation.

    C'mon Peter!

Garrido seems to be in the water, looks like Lawrie has it. Great, great achievement.

    Phew, that was nerve-wracking! :D

Lads, I've always said it - the PGA Tour can't match the Euro Tour for drama and excitement.

Great courses, different style courses every week, different countries and climates. The "mood" of every tournament is different and you really never know who is gonna challenge from one week to the next. Fantastic stuff.

And every tournament seems to end in a playoff!! :D

Hey - just had a thought... We've won three in a row, right? What chances of making it four next week with Padraig at the TPC!?!? :D

And just to keep the good news coming, Michael Hoey is tied for the lead in the Challenge Tour event in Morocco with 2 holes to play.

Well done Peter Lawrie. Thought Garrido had it once he forced it to a play-off, but what a putt on the first extra hole. Great stuff.

Any Irish playing in Italy next week?:)

Hoey wins in Morocco. Good weekend for Irish golfers.

Fantastic! Our men are in something of a purplepatch at the minute... Has Hoey secured a card for the full tour next season?

No, to secure a full tour card a player needs three Challenge Tour wins in the same season. That's only his second paying finish this season, he was tied 30th last week but missed the cut in his other 4 outings. It'll move him well up the rankings though.

Yes what happened to Michael. He was a fairly decent golfer but hasn't been able to break into the main tour and stay there.

Oh and the comment about the European Tour verses the US Tour was a good point. The European Tour throws up fresh faces in new countries and is more enjoyable than watching the same big names every week.

Great day for the lesser known irish golfers. Had to follow the action at work. So missed all the drama.

Well done Peter Lawrie! Seemed to keep below the radar until very near the end and looked really composed down the last few holes and then again in the play-off.

I know it's an individual sport but what a few weeks for "Team Ireland"! Must be the best season for Irish golfers in terms of individual wins already. And it should get better. I think once the tour settles in Europe then it won't take long for McIlroy to show his true form and win something. Harrington will hopefully add another win or two(Torrey Pines and Birkdale would be nice!!) And Gary Murphy and Paul McGinley must be wondering when it's their turn! :) Great to see!

Have to say, I felt the Sky Sports commentary team were a bit disrespectful to Peter early in the day when he was only a couple or three shots off the lead. They never really mentioned him as a possible winner at all. He was always within striking distance and then, obviously, his closing run of four birdies in the last six put him in the driving seat.

They only follow the top couple of players on the last few days so hence why they didn't show him until he made his charge as the last couple of holes where playing hard so they didn't think he would do it.

Its like this in every tourney (Sky, BBC) as they will focus in on the leaders as thats what people want to see is the leaders play. Only exception is Woods when they still show him play even if miles behind.

Yeah, that goes without saying, but I felt he was more in contention the whole day than they seemed to give him credit for. He started the day five back I think so should've been considered a contender from the start.

At one point they hadn't showed him in a while and I said to myself "Lawrie must've slipped back or they'd be showing him" then when they eventually showed him tapping in for par he was 12-under and only two back. He was right in the thick of it really.

    Fantastic win for Peter!

He's a fine player and a true gentleman. A real ambassador for Irish golf.

What a run in recent weeks.

    Who's next??
