Hi All - new to this journey. Will be looking to get onto the M50 at Blanchardstown and get across to Stillorgan Industrial park at Exit 14, specifically onto Bracken Rd.

Anybody doing this / a similar run know how long it will take to get across early in the morning?

If I got on the M50 at Blanch around 07.00/07.15 would that avoid the worst of it? Coming home any suggestions?

Any comments / advice much appreciated. I'll be based out there with work temporarily but may become permanent.

    Thanks in advance guys

I think you'll need to do a trial run. At the moment you are faced with:

    (a) Blanchardstown interchange is about to be re-built.
    (b) Tallaght-Sandyford roadworks
    (c) Luas works in Sandyford.

J14 can be a nightmare in the mornings, it can be extremely busy from 8 am onwards. You might be better off using J13 instead & heading down past the Beacon hotel & into the industrial estate that way.

As for the rest of the journey, from Blanch through the toll & down to Ballymount takes about 10-15 minutes around 7:30 am. But then you hit Ballymount & the traffic will move slowly until at least Firhouse (J12) and that can take 25 minutes.

In the evenings - it's a bit slow around J13 with traffic joining the M50 northbound, but it usually moves quickly enough from there until halfway between the Red Cow & Lucan exits, where the traffic moves pretty slowly going through the toll bridge. If you're exiting at Blanchardstown you'll be OK once you're through the toll gates.

Supposedly the hold up at the toll should ease once the new system is in place & the barriers are gone.

Journey times - I'd say 45 minutes from J6 to J14, but that doesn't include the time spent getting off at J14. Might be a bit longer heading north in the evening.

Getting on at 7.00 am might help - listening to DCAL (103.2 FM) they always say that the M50 south is clear at 7 AM in their first report but by 7.15 both the toll gates & the area around Tallaght & Firhouse are getting busy.

I passed the Blanch exit at around 7.10 this morning & was in my seat at work (Cherrywood) by 7.45, J14 looked OK as well.

You'll have a better idea of things once you've done the journey for a few weeks, tuesdays are always slow, bad weather can screw things up as well. Good luck!

Thansk Peter - doing the trial run this week but will need a few weeks to gauge it. Cheers again.

How do you find it coming home?

It can be slow enough between the Red Cow & the toll gates. It's OK from Cherrywood to the Cow, except for the bit around J13, but that's usually just a slow section with traffic joining the road there.

Of course an accident or breakdown will mess everything up (which is what happened yesterday).

it's all very well doing a trial run now but don't forget that the school run will be ending soon.

Another route worth considering coming home is m50 to tallaght or ballymount, up Belgard Road, onto Naas Road and straight up to Lucan via the Kingswood interchange. Then take the backroad into Blanch.
