    Hi all,
Just a wee note to say a big thank you to all on this forum who recommended Gunn's camera shop.I traveled up from Tramore on Saturday lunchtime and bought a Lowepro fastpack 200 and a Canon 50mm f/1.8 MK II.The girl in the shop could'nt have been more helpful, she gave me 5% off the sale and even let me check out a Canon 70-200mm f/2.8 L USM IS, even when i said i would'nt be buying it there as it was nearly double the price of what it can be had off kea-photo for.;)

It's a great shop. They have great passion for photography and are very helpful. I always shop there when I can. Of course, for the expensive parts, ebay is still best.

Always worth dropping in, even if you just want some equipment advice, never mind their great stock.

When checking out the Canon 70-200mm f/2.8 LUSM IS lens the girl in the shop recommended that i should upgrade my camera body from a 400D to at least a 40D.I'll be going to B&H photo in October so if this is the case i could but it there or go for the 5D.What would be your thought on this one Paul?Any help would be greatly appreciated...:)

Thats a fair point , Even though it would work fine that lens is a bit big for a 400D body , the 40D is much bulkier and stronger and would suit that lens more, the 5D is bigger and bulkier again.

The 5D isn't bigger and bulkier than the 40D. They're a similar size/make body actually.

While I can understand what Kathy or Fiona said, in some ways I would disagree. It really does depend on what you want to use it for.

It's a great lens and a great investment, no matter what body you use it on.

The 5D and 40D are quite different. Frame size, fps, buffer, ISO performance, AF performance. So, it would really depend on your use as to which body you might consider.

The girls know about Kea quite well.....
I always mention about their fanclub from here.....pity they have no website, they would def have alot more customers because they will reduce their prices a tad below their rivals.

Disclaimer: I upgraded from a 350D to a 40D a couple of months or so again.

I will say this: both the 400D and the 40D are very, very good cameras. I would, however, only advise upgrading your camera if you have run into the limits of what the 400D can do. For me, that was fps and cache memory and yes I had run into the limits (rather too often).

What you want to do with your camera has a major bearing on what camera you buy. The 5D is a full frame camera. It is a beautiful camera; I have used Al's on one or two occasions. However, the 40D is a crop sensor and I shoot sport. The net impact of the crop sensor is that I get more out of my long zoom lenses. This is extremely important to me.

If you are shooting sports, it's something to be borne in mind. If, however, you are more landscape, macro and flowers, portrait, I think - and a few other posters here would probably agree - the 5D is probably a far wiser purchase.

If, on the other hand, you are not sure, then I think you should stay with the 400D until you are sure.

    My two cents' worth

I have known the Gunns since the 80's when I worked close by. Fabulous family and great service. After buying my 10D abroad I finally bought my 5D in Gunns. It made me feel good :)

I've shopped in Gunns and they have been very helpful. Once the girl serving me talked me out of buying some B&W processing stuff, she said I would probably never use more than once or twice so I should wait and look for it again later. She was right I stopped darkroom stuff a couple of months later. Every time I shop there the Mr Gunn always makes me feel like he really appreciates the business, some other shops in town make you feel like they have done you a favour just standing up to open the register.

You'll find it hard to beat Gunns prices in Ireland but nobody will ever beat Gunns for customer service. Some of the nicest people you'll ever meet.
