I suppose I might as well take the plunge and make a post!

I've wanted to get into MMA for the past while, i suppose for self defence, to be able to handle myself like.

Anyway I read the sticky about just asking for clubs for up to date info. I'd like to train in mixed MMA, not quite in Judo or JuJitsu or any particular area but in a combination of the MA. I don't really know which art, or whether it would be BJJ or something, so I guess thats my inexperience talking. I'd really appreciate if you could point me in the right direction of an MMA firstly.

In terms of training I'd be looking for somewhere in the city centre, Dublin 1, 2, 3 or 4. I'm living in D2 but will be working in D1/D2 for the next while so the city centre would suit me best. I suppose I would have to travel if theres nothing in the city centre tho!

So, can anybody point me in the right direction?

Hey Ideo. If you're interested; you're more than welcome to pay us a visit. We're in Dublin 3 - easy to get to and don't focus on a specific range. We're MMA all the way and most of the guys are beginners so you'd fit right in.

Just call down any Tuesday or Thursday at 19:45.

    All the best,
    Shane.

Fair play! We're not quite D1 or D2 but there's a few lads who come from the city centre to us so it may suit. We're in Glasnevin on the 120 bus route or the Western Suburban train line. (the Arrow)

All of our classes are suitable for beginners so feel free to jump in to any of them any night. We've a load of beginners in at the moment so you won't be the only one learning the ropes. You can give me a shout on 085-8320174. Focus is on learning the fundamentals of each range first and then combining them, so you'll do stand-up, clinch and ground. Some people just do one range though and that's all good too.

If that doesn't suit, there's also www.sbgireland.com on the Long Mile Road, there's BJJ Revolution www.sbgnorthside.com in Baldoyle which is one the dart line, www.spartanmma.com in Tallaght.

Don't be afraid to travel! To learn bjj I had to travel across town from Swords to Harold's Cross 2 afternoons a week and sneak into work late :D. Travelling is worth it for a good gym you fell is giving you what you want.

Ideo, I'd second Shane from mmaireland.com's post. I joined up with him a few months back. The lads are brilliant and all look to help each other out, there is also no pressure on you whatsoever, everyone is down there for different reasons, self-defence, fitness, people looking to compete etc. Skills vary from complete beginner to border line pro's. I wish I could make it down more often than I currently do. Its brilliant all round workout too, you'll be amazed how quickly your fitness improves as well as your fighting skills.

    Regards

    Tristan
