    1. Who do you rate the best American/Mexican Boxer of all time?

    Sugar Ray Robinson, none better.

    2. Who do you rate the best Pound for Pound non American/Mexican boxer?

Carlos Monzon, my second favourite middleweight of all time, the first being Hagler.

    3. Who do you rate the best Pound for Pound UK boxer of all time?

Lennox Lewis, genuine king of the heavies, that will do for me to get him in as the number one UK fighter.

    4. Who do you rate the best Irish Boxer of all time?

Steve Collins, not his biggest fan but rate him a little higher than McGuigan.

    5. Who do you rate the best Pound for Pound boxer of all time?

Sugar Ray Robinson. There have been many great boxers, and one even became known as the Greatest, but none can match the original Sugarman.

    My own are as follows

    1. Floyd Mayweather Jnr. (and I hate him)
    2. Joe Calzaghe
    3. Joe Calzaghe
    4. Steve Collins
    5. Floyd Mayweather Jnr. (again I despise the little prick but have to pick him)

As you can see these are all recent boxers. My list has changed over the last couple of years. For me Floyd Mayweather jnr. is the best I have ever seen. I don't like his attitude, I don't like how he goes about winning his fights as he just does enough most of the time, but I have never seen a boxer who always looked like it was easy in the ring. The other reason I had to pick him is that he did not duck from opponents.
I think Joe Calzaghe has surpassed the great Carlos Monzon, he has won with ease and won ugly. I think he has the fastest hands of any middleweight I have seen outside of the United States.
I go for Steve Collins and find it easy to do so. He beat a very good fighter in Chris Eubanks, but to me the fight he had with Mike McCallum is the reason I put him down as the best from Ireland. McCallum was underestimated by a lot of people and Collins came very close against him. In fact McCallum stated after the fight that he would never fight Collins again due to his toughness, the first and only time he ever made such a statement.
Two years ago, I would have had Carlos Monzon as my no.1 outside usa/mexico. I would have had Jim Watt as my no.1 in the uk.
My all time no.1 would have been Sugar Ray Leonard just ahead of Sugar Ray Robinson, Roberto Duran and Joe Louis.

Hard to call between Jimmy Wilde and Lennox Lewis, with Calzaghe a close 3rd

Barry McGuigan slightly ahead of Steve Collins.

Sligobhoy67, why has Matthew Macklin a Munster flag in front of his name ?

His father is from Roscommon and he spent most of the summers of his youth there (and still comes back after his fights). For his last few fights half of the Four Roads parish have gone to see him as they all know him well.

I would have thought a Connacht man like yourself would be looking to give us some credit :D

He fought all of two fights in 2006/2007. Before that it was three fights in 2005 and two fights in each of 2004 and 2003.

It was a rhetorical question Big Ears.
I'm well aware of his Tipp connections, as when he first appeared on RTE it was Tipp this Tipp that. He was in a pub in Roscommon a few days later and one of my buddies who was talking to him rang me and all I said was to tell him to get RTE to mention Roscommon next time and hey presto they did.

I obviously have major influence somewhere :D:D
