Thinking of buying a new moby. Just wondering which one is a better option.

I know that E51 has FM radio which E65 doesnt have.

What does E65 has that E51 doesnt have?

It looks like E65 is a little expensive compared to E51.

I know that E65 has 3G and wifi. Does E51 has both?

    Any opinions greatly appreciated.

Any other recommendation for a moby? Basic requirement 3G and wifi.

I've had an E65 since September last year and it is a great phone would defo recommend it. I was tempted to trade it in for an E51 (as I was getting a little sick of slider phones), but the guy in the shop told me that the E65 is just better and to stick with my E65 for the time being.

I bought the e51 two weeks ago and I'm very happy with it. Having had the e65, I can say the e51 is a lot more stable and faster. Build quality is a lot better too.

There aren't too many differences, but they are significant.

Unlike the e65, the e51 has HSDPA.
Memory on the e51 is 130mb as opposed to 50mb.
Battery life for me is far superior on the e51.
There's is also a few extra codecs, h264 etc, and video options on the e51.

The e65 should be replaced fairly soon, as it went on sale with the e50 (the predecessor of the e51, naturally.) So you should be able to pick them up very cheap, very soon.

    Overall, I'd recommend the e51.

edit. Yes, the e51 has wifi.

Personally I perfer the E65 and think it's slightly more usable. It also has a better screen.

However the E51 uses a later version of symbian. Because of this and the hardware it's much faster and has some slightly better features.

Either way they are both very good phones.

Thanks for the replies. I heard a new version of E65 coming soon. Is this correct?

I'm just surmising that given the e65 age and nokia's fondness for releasing new models that it can't be around for much longer. I'm surprised it's still on sale.

There was a thread asking the exact same question a week or two ago aswell if you look back this might help you.

I replaced my e65 with a e51. I find it more stable and prefer the size/shape of it. It also has HSDPA (much faster version of 3G).

Compared the features of the two- http://www.gsmarena.com/compare.php3?idPhone2=2106&idPhone1=1860

Just got the E51 and it seems to be a great phone. Build quality is top notch and the phone feels good in your hand.
Takes a bit of setting up to get everything running but once its done you'll be flying.

Not great for multimedia but thats not its target market I suppose.

From looking at the vodafone website it says that the e51 doesnt have vibra alert. Is this true?? It says the following features are not available on the e51 but they are on the e65. Cany anyone confirm please?

    MMS
    GPRS
    Highspeed
    Vibra Alert
    Long Battery Life
    Memory Card
    Colour Screen
    Java Games Capable
    Lightweight
    Polyphonic Ringtones

Also says that the e65 is NOT triband / quadband compatible. Can anyone confirm this as well?

    Thanks for your help.

The Nokia e51 vibrates when I get a call / text / email.

Thanks random. Any idea about any of the other features? MMS or colour screen? thought it would have had both of these!

It supports everything that the e65 does from my experience. I had the e65 and now I have the e51.

So it has MMS / colour screen / etc.

The only negative (really depends on what you're looking for though I guess?) differences I'd noticed are that the e65 seems to have a bigger screen (makes no difference to me).

If you're trying to decide between the two then I went for Nokia e51 - HSDPA is great and phone seems more slimsline.

Long life battery? Neither phone has one! About 1-2 days is my experience.

This here is your first mistake.

http://www.nokia.ie/A4686267 will give you a better idea - it's quad band, Java, Wifi, etc, all the stuff you'd expect from a high end phone.

Neither have a built in GPS from what I can see which would be the major drawback in my mind.

I have the e51 - I value slimline above all else so it was the one for me.

    • It has MMS - comes up as an option when I choose to message somebody. That said, I've never actually used MMS.
    • It has GPRS and highspeed (assuming by 'highspeed' you mean HSDPA) - I use them all the time.
    • It definitely has vibra alert (I've just phoned the E51 in my pocket to verify).
    • It has pretty poor battery life in my opinion, esp if you use the aforementioned HSDPA. I took mine out of the charger yesterday morning and it now needs recharging 36 hours on. That said, I have spent most of that time in remote rural areas.
    • Regarding memory card, I've just opened up the back to verify and there is what appears to be a microSD slot at right angles to the USIM slot.
    • It has a colour screen.
    • It can run Java apps (I run GMail all the time) so I've no reason to suspect a Java game would be any different from any other Java app.
    • It is very lightweight, and super slim.
    • It has polyphonic ringtones - I have a very authentic sounding old fashioned telephone as mine.
In summary, the E51 is the best phone I've ever owned by a country mile. The only thing I'm not happy with is battery life - just make sure you have a charger at the office as well as at home.

    Hope this helps!

Thanks folks. I need to get a new phone that will incorporate email for work etc. and have internet and all that jazz. I dont like blackberrys and am well used to nokias at this stage. I also have a 1GB memory card that I'd like to hold on to and use in either of these phones.

Would you recommend both of these for using email in the same way that you could use a blackberry for one? Also, to those of you who do use them for emails, can you open any attachments using them? Word docs or PDF's or anything like that? I'm presuming not but just thought I'd ask.

    Thanks again

The Vodafone version has Vodafone Email preloaded. Don't ask me how this all works, I don't use it but from what I can tell it does email push like BB

The memory slot is microSD FYI

It has Quickoffice Basic (which allows viewing of MS Word/Excel/PowerPoint) and Acrobat loaded.
