    radio-operators,

Does the Motorola XTX446 have the same headset connections (2 pin, 7.5mm I believe) as the XTN446?
Just want to make sure before I commit to buy a Cavalry headset when they're back in stock.

    Thanks,
    T

Assuming you have the right Cavalry headset. There are versions available for various connection types. Make sure the one you get is a "Motorola type" connection before purchasing and you'll have no bother at all. Cracking headset and a brilliant radio (coming from a user of both). The Motorola type will also work with the XTN series radios.
The other types of radio connectinos on it are (as far as I recall) Iasus, Kenwood and "Standard" (despite there being no standard).

I have the right cavalry headset :D. Imagine having a Motorola radio and a Kenwood headset
Good to know it works alright.

    Thanks Dex

Where is the best place to get one of those headsets??

Ehobby do them for the pretty nifty price of $88. They have the entire range of them in all colours and pin-types. They have a lot more pin types than I remember, a cursory look turned up Icom and even Talkabout support.

In the last few days I've and got a new XTN446 for 135eur delivered (including a drop in charger) and a Cavalvy headset from ehobby.

So that's about 200 quid for an entire comms set (excluding VAT etc on the headset)! :pac::pac::pac:

    Thanks Dex, really appreciated, T.

€135 for the XTN? Bargain. Where'd you find that?

No bother, enjoy it. Cav-sets are great pieces.

    ebay.co.uk
I saw it a couple of weeks ago, but it wasn't available to post here. Emailed the seller...waited...and a few days ago it came up again. Nabbed!

I'm fairly pleased myself with the price, considering that some of the prices here are a little "excessive" for the same radio, without a charger...
I know it's discontinued but still, a saving of 100 euro isn't too bad, although that savings going to Shiva for a VFC416, so I won't see much of that money ;), and it's a great radio according to the experts ie you :D

They're not discontinued, the XTX ones are. The XTN is still the benchmark by which PMR446 radios are set. I'd still have mine today if it hadn't been run over by a Land Rover (it took that much to kill it).

Between the signal clarity, the power, dual scanning and the encryption functions, I haven't used a better licence free radio ever.
    Enjoy it mate.

I thought the XTN/XTX series was being replaced by the XTNi series (the difference being the presence/lack of an LCD monitor within the new series; the XTNi and the XTNiD)? Ah well, doesn't matter, it's a good buy anyway.

Your's was crushed by a Land Rover? I can only imagine...
If that's what it takes to kill it then it's an even better buy than I thought

There are plenty added to ebay regularly, so keep an eye out if anyone wants them. Make sure that a charger is included aswell, makes life a whole lot more handy than messing around with AAs.
