Ok I am being serious here, but any of you who were at the Grad Ireland Expo on Wednesday will be in sheer disbelieve as to who won the Most Popular Graduate Recruiter (Banking Sector) for this year??????

Well my eyes nearly came out of my head when AIB was announced as the winner in the Banking Sector. How the hell did AIB win this after the absolute shambles that was this years Grad Programme Recruiting . They have treated their graduates this year absolutely disgracefully. From not contacting people, then making people sit through in some case two aptitude test and an interview. Those who actually got an offer were then told sorry but we can't give you an offer but we will but you on a waiting list - how nice?

I for one thing Grad Ireland is a joke, how could you give an award to to AIB. Personally I think whoever gives the largest sponsorship seems to win. I have lost all respect for both AIB and Grad Ireland.

If any would care to look at the thread on AIB in the working section they will clearly see the problems AIB has caused for alot of graduates this year.

    From GradIreland:
Most popular graduate employer – banking and investment banking

    Shortlist:
    AIB Group
    Anglo Irish Bank
    Bank of Ireland
    Bank of Scotland (Ireland) Ltd/Halifax
    Citi
Ulster Bank/Royal Bank of Scotland Group

    Winner: AIB Group

Also to ad more insult to injury they came 5th out of the Top 100 Overall.

I wonder where and how they source their statistics, maybe the statistics they have is from 2006 :)

Seems you can make up your own criteria aswell.

This is for next years entries:

    How are the awards judged?

The judging will take place in Spring 2009. Each award has different judging criteria (see entry form for details) although all submissions should include the objectives that you wished to be judged against. Quantified outcomes, hard evidence and data concerning your return on investment are particularly valued in the judging process.

:DNow I know how they won, they won because of their unbelievable low cost for their 2008 Graduate Programme...... so cheap in fact wait for it because they didn't recruit anyone!!!!!

That's shocking. When I saw the title I was about to come on and ask what dope your were smoking... Unreal.

Absolute joke alright, how the hell can a company who issued a grad recruitment freeze and took on NO grads be the best graduate recruiter!?!?

It's probably based on last year's intake, that's how. It would, therefore, be surprising to see AIB win this next year.

Surely such extenuating cirumstances should have seen them disqualified from winning it this time around? Like it's fair to say that the results are used as a major selling point for firms when it comes to grad recruitment, so for AIB to have that feather in their cap is extremely misrepresentative

Well the feather is kinda useless to them if they arent taking anyone on tbh. To me it just makes the award look stupid. It dosent really do that big a favour to AIB.

Don't blame AIB, blame the students who voted for them.
Most popular graduate employer – banking and investment banking

    Shortlist:
    AIB Group
    Anglo Irish Bank
    Bank of Ireland
    Bank of Scotland (Ireland) Ltd/Halifax
    Citi
Ulster Bank/Royal Bank of Scotland Group

    Winner: AIB Group

In fairness the competition is not that steep, looking at that list they probably have the highest graduate salaries, don't know for sure. Therefore they win...
    Although this makes no sense....
The most popular graduate recruiter in Ireland

    Shortlist:
    Intel
    Accenture
    Ernst & Young
    Public Appointments Service
    Bank of Ireland
    AIB Group
    Deloitte
    Google
    KPMG

    Winner: PricewaterhouseCoopers

they're behind BOI. Seems like the equivalent of those surveys on sky news

They're ahead of BoI, it's in ascending order, finishing with the winner.
    Top 100

There seems to be some confusion about how the ranking is generated.
It comes from responses to the first question in this survey: http://www.gradireland.com/100/survey.asp
"Which graduate employers in Ireland would you most like to work for? Please enter your top five choices in order of preference"

The more times a company's name is used, the higher up the list it places. I don't know if the "order of preference" bit makes a difference. For the sector awards like Banking and Investment Banking the bank that got the most mentions (and therefore placed highest in the Top 100) wins that sector.

ah, the shortlist is in alphabetical order. duh

    EDIT:
Looking through the full list it's pretty meaningless imo. It's pretty top heavy with banks and acc firms, so they must have asked a large no of business students, prob because there's so many of them.

    65. Aldi
    66. Goldman Sachs
    heh

Not really, banks have grad programmes for most diverse range of students from IT to Business, Maths and even Psychology.

    Hi guys

I just wanted to clarify how the survey was conducted:

    · gradireland received over 10,000 votes from students and graduates from every campus in Ireland north and south
    · Students were asked which company they most wanted to work for when they graduate
    · Voting began in October 2007 and closed in March 2008 -therefore voting began at the start of this academic year
    · Each student could vote for up to 5 companies, each vote was then weighted and collated - the companies who received the highest number of votes coming higher up the rankings
    · Voting was independent and had no influence from gradireland
    · No companies can sponsor awards and many companies who spend no money with gradireland appear in Irelands 100 Leading Graduate Employers

Like all surveys that are based on a popular vote, not everyone will agree with the outcome and it will be impacted by the time frame the survey is conducted. The top 10 companies have changed from the 2007 result, when AIB was number 1 – dropping to 5 this year.

This year we introduced judged awards for the best marketing campaign, best training and development programme and best work experience programme. These are judged by an independent panel of judges and the winning companies were Deloitte, Fidelity Investments and KPMG respectively.

If you want to have your say, voting will re-open for the 2009 awards on October 1st 2008.

I'm in college in UCD doing Arts and I got approached by people asking me to vote for the employers I most like to work for, as did mates of mine in other courses.

These guys are wandering around campus from what I can see and targeting as many people as posible to fill the questoinnaire in. I know I rarely stop and fill in stuff but this one seemed useful....

If you think about it logically why would they only target specific students? It cant be of any benefit to them for one company to come out on top - they have loads of different types of companies that they work with so its not in their interest to piss clients off.

As someone else said banks take on loads of different types of grads so thats probably why.

I'm gonna hold fire until I see this years results. I've been to a few grad Ireland fairs and I'm heading to the summer one in June in the RDS. I've found them pretty useful for all types of companies and for giving advice...

I know that, what I said was there are so many business students, compared to psychology or maths students for example. The idea that aldi are a more sought after employer than Golman sachs is ridiculous, and that would be apparent if you asked a pool of people who would in the market for both. I don't know who the analogous employer would be in IT or medicine, but they would probably only be relevant for a small proportion of jobseekers.
It doesn't tell you anything useful if you just lump everyone in together, because students will include somewhere on their list the generic large companies who take in all kinds of graduates, but are not particularly sought after in one particular field
