freelance photographer rights

    does any body know where i can get the offical rights to freelance photographers? having difficulties in getting paid from an organisation and i want to know where i stand

    I'm not sure I understand what you mean.

    If you're having problems getting paid, hassle their accounts dept, and the editor.

    i have done for some time now payment is outstanding since feb! there just passing the buck to next dept etc every time and using lots of excuses

    Depending on how much is involved, a solicitor's letter could rattle them into action. If the paper is part of a larger chain it might be possibly worth raising the issue with them too.

    As an aside I've been in a very similar position (looking back at some of your posts and seeing where you're based, it could even be the same rag involved).

    I eventually did get paid on that occasion (virtually six months later).

    I would definitely say don't let it go and keep fighting to get the money out of them - also of course warn all your colleagues in the biz to steer clear.

    Assuming the sums aren't large,

    Final reminder with stated final payment date.

    File in Small Claims Court - don't forget to add on interest for the period and expenses of collection.

    As far as I'm aware, the small claims court can't be used for settling debts. I remember researching this about 2 years ago when I was owed a fair amount in a similar situation.

    I could be wrong though

    the nature of events, everyone involved gets f**ked round payment wise, i work an aweful lot for 'some company' and between crew, e.c., lighting, stage hand andphotography it can take up to 3 or4 months, i worked paddys day festival last year, one guy hadnt been paid til a month beforethis years one
