So, with Collina long gone and Frisk having done a runner, who has the current mantle of Best Ref in The World?

I have my own ideas on this one, but I don't want to mention names in case that influences others.

I was going to say me.

I am also a qualified referee.

Once sent off a kid for telling me the wrong number on his shirt when I was booking him.

The he called me a cúnt, and his manager made him apologise to me after the game.

    U13s or something. :)

    Don't even joke about that.

    Actually.

For the serious answers, could you say why you think that particular ref makes a good ref.

What are the qualities of good refereeing?

I hate referees who won't listen to players even though it's only a conversation. There's a few in our league who will book you if you even look in their direction yet there are others who will have a laugh and joke with the players but still command their respect. The latter is the way to go.

A good referee is the opposite to Rob Styles.

    Uriah Rennie.

What makes a good ref? Not Uriah Rennie.

Most recent list from the stattos is for 2006. I don't know what they use, but the historical list concurs with popular lore!

IFFHS' World's Best Referee of the Year 2006
    Top 10

    1. Horacio Marcelo Elizondo 159 pts Argentina
    2. Lubos Michel 69 " Slovakia
    3. Markus Merk 60 " Germany
    4. Benito A. Archundia Tellez 42 " Mexico
    5. Luis Medina Cantalejo 26 " Spain
    6. Jorge Larriondo Pietrafesa 24 " Uruguay
    7. Roberto Rosetti 19 " Italy
    8. Frank De Bleeckere 18 " Belgium
    9. Herbert Fandel 17 " Germany
    10. Massimo Busacca 16 " Switzerland

I think Rob Styles suffers the most because he seems to try and even things up when he's made a bad decision, or when one team is dominating the other, it's a really bizarre style of refereeing, and the sooner the FA get rid of him the better, demoting him isn't fair on the divisions below.

The best referee's are probably those that don't get mentioned a lot, they're there to facilitate play, not be part of it.

I think Halsey is one of the better refs in the Premier Leaugue

I think the ref in the Barca United home tie was extremely good.

Howard Webb is a good ref. Can control a big game without stopping it every ten seconds or flashing cards.

I agree on the Rob Styles. Worst ref going with an honourable mention to Uriah

I would say Howard Webb is definately the best in England at this moment.
