    Hi,
Do you need your landlord's PPS number to get rent relief?
If not what do you need?
    Cheers

You do not need your landlords PPS.
Contact Revenue they will send you a form.
Put the property details on it, along with the rent being paid and you will get the tax credit.
Revenue can find out the other details themselves.

    Thanks for that info.
How much does it work out as, in real terms?

    Thanks for that info.

The limit on the amount of rent paid that tax relief can be claimed on for 2008 is EUR2000 per person (which equates to a tax credit of EUR400). For 2007 its EUR1800 per person which is a tax credit of EUR360, for 2006 it was EUR1650 which equates to EUR330. You can claim back relief for 4 years.

The rent relief is paid as a tax credit on your earnings, at the marginal rate (20%). If you do not have earnings but are renting (e.g. if you're a student or whatever) you do not qualify for the relief. Note: request it anyway, and allow the Revenue Commissioners to calculate your entitlements.
