    PWInsider says:
World Wrestling Entertainment's Santino Marella was arrested at 2:57 AM this morning on charges of Driving Under the Influence after being stopped at 6301 Westshore Boulevard in Tampa, Florida. Marella is currently being held on $500 bond. I'm sure we'll have more on this later today.

I wonder how WWE will react

It's a DUI so it could swing either way. They could fire him like they did Eddie Guerrero in November 2001, or they could make a mockery of it like they did with Flair a year or so ago.

It's WWE, at this stage i just think they flip coins to decide.

They will job him out to Rowdy Roddy but he will still win the World Tag Titles with Carlito.

I think with Eddie it was more than just the DUI. He crashed his car and obviously had other problems too. I read a bit more on another site and Santino wasn't even over the limit, but he was within a range where they can take action based on other evidence

Flair's deal was a road rage incident which got thrown out of the courts. I'd say they knew that wasn't too serious

I'd say Santino will be fine. Ted DiBiase Jr got arrested for being over the limit a few months ago and he was wrestling at a developmental show that night

DiBiase got his license revoked the other day and has been ordered to do community service and it is still with the company. But does it make a difference that he is not someone that is seen on t.v.? Can't see Santino being fired for it tbh.

UFC fighter Chris Leben arrested for DUI as well today....

True, but if (and this is a very big IF), thing had gone in the other direction with Eddie back then, it would still have looked like Eddie was fired for a DUI. Especially how under the microscope they were then with Brian Christopher's drugs possession crossing the Canadian border earlier that year.

Never liked that pleb from the second i saw him on the series of TUF. He just came across as loudmouth bullsh*itter, who couldn't handle it whenever he was called on it. Hell of a fighter, but he ain't got much going on in the brains department.

    VR!

Leben just turned himself in because he had probation charges on his record that he needed to clear before he fights in London in June. I used to feel the same way about him as VR, but he seems to have matured a bit and he has good fights so he's alright by me

I don't know. Should it just be left to the cops? Its not like he was taking steroids, which would affect how he performs on air. He was drink-driving, which doesn't really involve the company. There could be some negative publicity aspects, but to be honest I can't really see this being a big news item or hurting revenues in any way.

are you serious? or are you just a little Naïve?! it was released that a wwe superstar got behind the wheel while under the influence, if wwe isnt seen to punish it will have serious effects on them as they will be seen to not take dui serisouly, or not think it is a problem....from a PR perspective they need to punish him....it could get serious!

You make a good point, but if you watch Raw this week you'll see Santino being made fun of for his arrest. WWE aren't going to punish him

tbh ive lost some respect for the wwe now...ANY Legitimate business (be it service or otherwise) would have sanctioned him in some way..... he should have been repromanded (sp??) and making him a jobber still doesnt send the right message out.

Well JBL beat the sh*t out of the Blue Meanie at One Night Stand and his only punishment was to job to him. He came back at ONS II the following year and bragged that nothing had happened to him.

    It's all about politics.

I think all these reports coming out about Michael Hayes' racism are more noteworthy than what Santino did one night to be honest. I've heard it said before, but if this sort of stuff went on in any other industry people would not be turning a blind eye to it

Piper's reference to it this week on RAW was good

They suspended him this time. But there's many stories coming out about him making KKK jokes in creative meetings, about them not interviewing black creative writers unless Hayes is on holiday and about complaints regarding him being ignored

Yeah I think the Michael Hayes story is way more serious and much more newsworthy. From what I've read, he's been blatantly offensive to a large number of people over the last few years and up until now, a blind eye has been turned.

I also think it's something that alot of wrestling fans role their eyes to and don't take seriously. Wrestling should be held to the same standard as other industrys and sports.

For example, if Liam Brady started making racist comments about Irish soccer players over an extended period of time and it got out in the press, would he get away with a 60 day suspension? I don't think so because people would be outraged.

Of course then you have the real life example of Ron Atkinson. He didn't get a 60 day suspension. He lost his job.

But some wrestling fans shrug their shoulders or say people are being too PC either because they haven't read about some of the problems around this issue or else they don't care. By doing that though, your not helping wrestling to me.

I think you mean Ron Atkinson, though Rowan does campaign against laws that would outlaw what some people deem to be politically incorrect jokes

I think his best mates are Taker and Vince so he does have a lot of leeway in the company. He's got away with murder over the years he's meant to be a bit of a backstage bully.

oh i didnt know about all that! ye that is way more serious, but that does not deminish the seriousness of a DUI - makin a joke about it is not the correct way to deal with it, i think wwe dropped the ball here!
