Sometimes you hear a song and you think, wow that would fit perfectly into a soundtrack.

I think everyone who posts on here have ideas as to what they would do if they were making films etc etc.

But what is the ONE song you would try and fit into any film you were to make?

    heres mine.

I'd try to get some Rush and/or King Crimson in there. Both bands have recently produced music that I would definitely call "cinematic". A great one for an action movie would be the Rush instrumental Malignant Narcissism (video here).

Its already been in a film, Heat, but Mobys cover of 'new dawn fades'... I'd love to see that appear in more films.

I'd ****ing puke if it was in a super hero ****e or any of that other hollywood garbage.

After I first saw that movie, I went out and bought the soundtrack - that's how good it is. It also includes some James (Arabic Agony), Brian Eno's Force Marker (during the bank robbery), and Michael Brooks' Ultramarine, which I saw him do live. (It's used in the scene where the cops are doing surveillance on the bad guys at the restaurant.)

Staying on the Progressive theme: I didn't think I would ever see Yes on a movie soundtrack, but Vincent Gallo must be a fan, he used a couple of their tracks in Buffalo 66. Heart of the Sunrise was a very odd choice for the scene in the strip club, yet incredibly effective. Genesis had a song called The Cinema Show, which was (I think) deliberately cinematic, lots of dramatic time changes and moody moments.

I can imagine some twisted southern gothic western soundtracked entirely by songs by Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds

Yes, I know Cave did the soundtracks for The Proposition and Jesse James, but I mean his own songs, particularly songs like Tupelo.

sacrament by HIM. It was used in the end credits to Highlander: The Search for Vengeance due to them not being able to find a proper plac ein the film for it.

A couple of songs by Jimmy Eat World that I always thought would be put to good use in an emotional movie scene, Drugs or Me, and Hear You Me.

King Crimson also featured in Buffalo 66 with Moonchild, in possibly my favourite scene from the film.
