Im not referring to any recent news events with this post.

In this day and age, why is there still so many houses without a fire alarm? Is it a case of couldnt be bothered or "it'll never happen to me?"

It seems to me to be irresponsible not to have one. Any thoughts?

"I'll get to it tomorrow, or next week. Sure nothing will happen between now and then"

OP, do you have any stats?

    I wish I didn't have one.
Everytime I'm roasting something in the oven, a tiny bit of smoke comes out, and sets off the fire alarm, which is increidbly loud and annoys everyone else in the apartment building.
There's no button to switch it off, and it's hard wired to the wall, so sometimes, even after I've switched off the oven, and opened all the windows, it still takes 20 minutes to shut off.

Yeah it's pretty shocking alright. Doesn't matter much to me though as I'm too heavy a sleeper and don't even wake up if the house alarm goes off, nevermind a fire alarm.
