Probably ok but it all depends on the airline. Best you check with them.

    From the Ryanair website

    ......................

Can I use my laptop onboard?

Yes, passengers are permitted to use the following electronic items once cruising altitude has been reached and the captain has turned off the 'Fasten Seat Belt' sign:

    Laptop
    CD walkman
    Digital MP3 players
    Portable DVD players
    Non-cellular PDAs
    Digital Dictaphones

ryan air! id never go with them.they are to fussy about everything, luggage weights, service on plane is crap imo.and certianally a rip off company. You cant play dvd player until the FASTEN SEAT BELT lights go off.Thats rubbish.Go with aer lingus ,dvds players on at any time garanteed!

That is nothing to do with Ryanair, its a regulation that all airlines have to follow. If Aer Lingus didn't say anything about you having a DVD player on during take off and landing then their air crew were just not paying proper attention.

For a good few years though Aer Lingus didn't allow the use of any electronic devices at any point during the flight on European routes because they couldn't be bothered with trying to tell the difference between a basic mp3 player and a mobile phone or laptop that might have wireless enabled.
