O2 is outsoucing its Technical Department, what impact is this likely to have for their customers.

Doubt it will have much tbh, A customer rarely has interaction with the Tech Department.

Vodafone did it last year and outsourced to IBM. no impact on customer services .... its a common thing in the IT industry these days

With O2 branching off into different areas like broadband and internet services handing over duties to IBM will help with quicker response times to issues relating to problems with the network. It also increases the knowledge base for moving into the future. customers may not be impacted but id say life within O2 will be made easier.

Very funny, however this will be happening within the next three months.

While most customers never have any direct dealings with the technical depts. The fact that the IT people will be working for one company and the Network (Radio, it is a mobil company afterall) will be working for another company, I think it will have a negative affect when there are problems with their services.

shouldn't make a difference if its managed well. There will a long bedding in period which will be difficult but in the long run it should work well. The conflicts i see arising is that both outsourcing companies are in it to make money and O2 could be left playing piggy in the middle. i dont see it really affecting customer service i see it in the short term affecting time to market for new services tbh, managing that will be the bigger challenge.

i see were o2 is going with this. it seems they want to let the people that do networks and IT best look after that side of things and o2 could focus on services, marketing and the brand. at the end of the day O2 aren't an IT company or a networks company they are a service provider...

this topic may be more relevant to a business forum, doesn't really fall under the remit of this one

find it a bit odd you joined Boards.ie in order to post this... also it's pretty old news...
