Hi lads, (great mac help here by the way for a noob!)

I've a MBP 15.4 inch bought last October......... 2 gb of RAM, would it make much difference to upgrade to 3gb of RAM or would 4gb be better? Also, is it a big job to install or should I take it to a Mac dealer?

    D

Its a breeze to install yourself, instructions are provided by Apple. All you need is a small Phillips screwdriver.

As for whether it'll improve matters, that depends on what you use the machine for.

Replacing RAM is the easiest thing to do, follow the intructions in the link below.

    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=303491

I wonder if you need all that ram anyway? My friend uses photoshop CS2 on 2g's of ram and finds it fine.

If you have pograms that use a large amonut of ram, at the same time, and your machime seem slow then maybe you'd need to upgrade the ram. But few people really need to go past 2g's I'd say.

I'm not sure how to work out how much ram your system would require but I'd guess if you looked up the system's ram requirments of each program you want to install or have installed and it comes close to 2g's then maybe upgrade

I use my mbp for a lot of live audio work and must say the move from 2GB to 4GB was a good one. I was maxing out the 2GB completely - am now using about 75% of the 4GB during a show
