Matching a Paint Colour

I like this colour in Farrow and Ball, but I don't have a stockist near me, the delivery charges are too high, and its pricey enough anyway!

So I'm wondering the best way to get a good match with another brand, is there anything online that could help or is it just trial and error. As its pink, it could be fairly disastrous if I get the wrong shade.

I was hoping to paint it this weekend, so the option of getting a sample to match is out.

    Any suggestions would be great.

hmm, looks like a dull grey pink. Just go into a paint shop and not somewhere like homebase. also, try to print off the colour from the page. you wont get the exact colour unless you have an excellent printer, but you should give the staff an idea. Dont ask for a dutch pink :D. i work in the interior design side of things and i hate when people come in trying to match up something ridiculous sounding like "winter morning blue"

edit. i see they've a ballina stockist. give them a shout

Thanks for the suggestions, Ballinas out for me too I'm afraid.

I used to get that in work too "Tuscan Sunset" or "Sandstone Beach" - WTF?!

I'm heading off to Homebase now, exactly what you told me not to do! I've to go there anyway so I'll see if I can get something similar, they do the Laura Ashley range which might have the same type of colour. 10% day too!

Extremely difficult to match F&B's pallette due to their manafacturing, dye and pigment processes.
That website won't show me your colour but I have a hand-painted colour swatch here somewhere and can get pretty close in Dulux colour dimensions if you give me the name of the F&B hue and your chosen finish...

[edit] nm got through to website...dutch pink...nice name lol

So far Victorian 8 on the dulux heritage card or 10YY50296 (very very slightly lighter) on the normal Dulux dimesnion card are the only two that come close. Even at that by the time you bring differing finishes/sheens into paly, the colour might be out on those by a shade or more.
Even the paint scan and match systems have it hard to get close to F&B because dyes/pigments are different from other paints...

    Disaster.

I ended up getting a Homebase own brand which looked very similar to the F&B. Its awful, like a purple has been mixed through it - and it took 3 coats. A decent paint would have done it in one, as they are good clean cream walls. So I was painting till 2am, woke up and I hate it!

Wertz, thanks a million for your help. I'm going to paint over this again't so I'm going to check out those Dulux colours now.

I wouldn't recommend Homebase paint (made by Johnstones) due to the really poor coverage, and the difference between the colour on the tin to the dried colour, is huge.

    Thanks again.

Next question: Anyone free to paint my sitting room..?!

Personally I never liked Johnstones to work with...except for some of their ceiling paints.
No paint would really have done it in one, F&B might if you brushed it all in, but it doesn't roll well...all emulsion needs at least 2 coats, even matt, and 3 is the usual some times for sheened finishes.
BTW your best bet for those colours I suggested as a match is to get a vinyl matt, to make them look like F&B. Soft sheen will look slightly lighter. Depends on where you're using it or if it's going to be easily marked I suppose so matt may not be suitable..
Another thing, painting should be done in natural light if possible, cuts down on misses and blemishes...
