A rarely used function in my 20D is the AI Servo mode. There's not a lot of call for it when shooting landscapes (which is my bag). However, I had occasion to be in Dublin airport on Monday last and had a few hours to kill before picking up some people. So, I drove over to the road at the south of the airport and decided to test AI Servo by shooting some aircraft. I was very pleasantly surprised at its accuracy. Practically every shot was in perfect focus. Here is a Ryanair 737 seconds after take off. It must have been traveling at around 150mph so I was mighty pleased at how sharp it is. Of course the 1/2000 sec shutter speed(a first for me, I think) helped some too. (Sigma 70-200 f/2.8).

Looks like a model plane. :p

Ah ironic Ryanair.. the only airline I've ever seen to have a "no drunks will be admitted" sign up while boarding and the only one on which I've seen drunks being admitted onto the aircraft :D

Right back on subject.. I like this shot, but then I am mad about airplanes. Love how much detail I can see in the pilot in the cockpit.. for some reason it feels like a tight crop to me. I might have left a bit more room at the nose of the plane.

Al Servo is almost permanently set on my camera.
    It's a must for sport!

In fairness, he did say it was moving at 150 mph. :)

I'd probably have missed the airplane completely and taken a lovely shot of the slower moving clouds :D
