8 of us heading to Hersonnissos for a week in August!

What's it like there early August, 26 of us went to Santa Ponsa last year, the whole leaving cert holiday thing! We're hoping for a bit more... last yr was great... but eh... Ponsa is a bit ****! We thought it would be alot bigger!~

Oh and the rumours you hear everywhere(even on here) about the lads being raped... are they true!?!?:eek::eek::eek::eek:

Also What are the Manos Maria apartments like???

    Should we be scared?

crete is a beautiful place - but doubt thats high on our list of importance
the night life is very busy, very british
lots of british bars, and irish bars
    also will be unbelievably hot

I've no idea what you are talking about people being raped , never heard of it on here, in crete or anywhere else TBH

When I was there was much older crowd than 19 y/os but was later in the year

    its very cheap too

thats about all use I canbe to ya

oh Zeus's Cave is cool , but again.....

should the cretans be scared ?

loads of threads on crete here

hersonosos is not british, its very very irish and dutch
hersonosos is not cheap either, 5er a beer but you often get 2 for price of 1
check out star beach, we spent every day there
oh dont mind all those rape stories, not true but do stick together
there will be lots of people your age there too
    dont expect much from accomadation
it is very very hot however

Guy (and a girl) were raped there the week before I arrived a few years ago.

Hersonnisos is a bit of a laugh if you're there for a drinking/scoring holiday. Lots of bars with relatively cheap booze (considering it'll be 2/3 for 1).

Dodgy place though as far as I'm concerned, when I was there for the LC holiday peoples apartments were being continually broken into, people's drinks spiked, the local police do not give a f*ck and are of absolutely no use when you need them. LOADS of Roma gypsies wandering around with their kids at night, do not go near them as they're very good at picking pockets. Try and ignore them whenever possible as their husbands are usually only around the corner.

It's fun and all but you've really got to watch out for yourself there. The taxi drivers are sleazy scum and do not ever get into one by yourself. Stay in groups, lock your apartments well and keep your valuables well out of sight. The place we stayed in provided security deposit boxes, for some reason the guys I shared with didn't bother getting one and we weren't broken into, yet everyone who got one was. In one incident, the actual safe was robbed. In another, one of the lads put cash into the roof of his room and was robbed while everyone was out one day.

As I said, it's a bit of craic but be very careful and make sure to look after one another over there.

strange peoples different experiences of a place
btw I wasn't in Hersonnissis, or at least didn't stay there, so I didn't comment on it

    but

all the people we met were irish , loads of british and german

nor did I say the beer was cheap, I get cheap beer in the off licence not high on my list on holidays

the place is cheap, long bus journeys 1 euro seventy

big botled water 30 cent, 4 course meals and beers 30 euro for two

bacardi breezer 1.40, local beer 1.20 a pint

and all the free drink offers in bars

And personally I found the locals ultra polite and helpful, the reps, and the "tourists" not so much
stayed in stalis (mostly) and was about 8 months ago - so thats how I found it then

the plane we flew out with , no complaints during the stay or return re robberies , or rapes, just the heat

went to crete with 30 of my mates last year, hersonisos! and we were all like 18/19

no-one got raped, the locals are sleazy though, just watch them at 5am checking everyone shaggin on the beach hahaha! and defo stick together as much as possible

drinks are cheap enough, all bottles are dear, shots are cheap

get quads, but watch yourself on them, dodgey works of art

august will be mental with any age from 17 to like 21 yr olds

the strip has everything you want and need, except those romanians, who really do just rob you and annoy you non stop!

players bar, temple bar, shenanigans & the local bar, all the best places

watch out for the dutch, cranky c***s, but thats all thats in hersonissos, irish and dutch

star beach is a serious spot, such good music and vibe, lazy river is dodgey, defo full of urine and god knows what!

if you want more info, pm me

i was there in mid august 2 yrs ago, but we didnt stay in hersonissos, slightly outside but a walk/short taxi away.

we were 4 22 yr old girls, met a good few irish lads, dont remember having any bother with anyone or feeling like it was a dodgy area, but maybe we were just drunkenly oblivious to it!

from what others are saying here maybe it is, but as long as you dont walk down any dodgy looking alleys on your own you should be fine! just use your head like anywhere else, dont go looking for or causing trouble, etc :)

nowhere was particularly amazing, but we usually ended up on the strip. id guess most people were around 18-25 but to be honest i didnt notice much. drink isnt too cheap, but you can get deals like 2 for a fiver (though the drink is usually the cheaper versions of the drink you order if youre ordering spirits).

we had fun :) probably one of the best girly holidays ive been on :)

was there last year when thought it was class, although i wouldnt rush into rentin a quad, if anything happens to it they will charge you loads for it to get repaired, stick with the group and it will b class.
