Install windows 2000 without the cd

My cd drive is buggered and I want to downgrade to 2000. I've made a win98 boot (from usb stick) and have a seperate fat32 partition with the I386 files.

I try to run the winnt.exe from windows 98 and it copies all the setup files but then it asks for a reboot to continue and I end up back at my xp logon screen.

Any ideas? Am I going about this the wrong way?

Sounds like you're doing everything right to me.

Did you start smartdrv before launching winnt?

I tried starting smartdrv but it gave me an invalid command message at the prompt. I'll give it another go and see
