A few table tennis rules questions...

    Hey,
Was hoping someone could make sure I know the proper rules for table tennis. I live in Berlin, and it's really nice, in every park and nearly every square they have concrete table tennis tables, with a metal net. So you can just bring along your paddles and if it's not too windy have a nice little game.

    So, the rules as far as I understand are;

Each score is worth 1 point, and every two points serving is switched. So, serving only switches when the two scores make up an even number.

Each game is up to 11 points. But if the score is 10-10, you have to win by a two point margin.

So, say It's 10-10 and I score a point, then the other guy scores a point, do I still have to win two in a row? Does it go on indefinitely until someone scores a two point lead?

If I serve the ball and when it bounces on the other guys side (Because of spin), and bounces back over the net, I still win that point right?

If I am serving and I fail to get it over the net, do I lose a point or do I just go again?

    Thanks for your help!

    Hi

Yes you have to win by two points. Also, service changes every one point when it gets to 10 all.

For serving, the ball has to bounce once on your side of the net then once on your opponents. If it bounces back over after doing that then good spin!!!
If you mess up a serve it's a point to your opponent, there are no second serves. In social games though, people will often say, ah you're fine serve again, but technically it's their point.

If you want to be picky about it you also can't put your hand on the table during a point!!

I haven'y played for a few years so when i played it was 21 and 5 serves each, the rules now are 2 serves each and games to 11 best of 5

Yes the game goes on until somebody gets a 2 point lead, it could go on forever!!

Yes you win the point, you do know that when serving when you strike the ball it must land before the net and then after the net

    You loose a point
    Thanks for your help!

    You're welcome

    Thanks Corkgirl and Onkle :)

So, just to make sure I have it right, does serve switch after every 2 points scored no matter who scored them?

Yes service switches every 2 points no matter who scores them. Check out youtube for good service techniques, a good serve can win a match
