Ryanair baggage and check-in costs increase

    Club travel issued this today:
Ryanair, Europe's largest low fares airline, have announced that it will continue its drive to increase the number of passengers checking in on-line by increasing baggage and airport check-in charges from May 5.

From this date Ryanair's checked in baggage fee will rise from €9 to €10 while airport check-in fees will increase from €4 to €5. Ryanair encourages passengers to avoid these charges altogether by travelling with 10kg hand luggage allowance and checking in on-line.

Passengers who book their flights in the next week (before May 5) will avoid these charges.

Announcing these charge increases, Ryanair's Peter Sherrard said:

"40% of Ryanair passengers currently avoid queues at both check-in and boarding by availing of our free web check-in service, and this increase in baggage fees will result in fewer checked in bags and more passengers changing to on-line check-in.

"On-line check-in is faster, more efficient and costs Ryanair less. There is no doubt that it is the future for air travel. We will continue to increase baggage fees until half of our passengers check-in online, which will allow us to reduce check-in and handling costs and pass on these savings to our passengers in the form of Europe's guaranteed lowest fares.

"Ryanair will continue to drive down the cost of travel by reducing its average fare (which includes baggage and check-in revenues) in 2008 and guaranteeing the lowest fares on every route".

Surprise Surprise ! Share price down, extra charges up:pac:

A mate of mine last night was pondering the Ryanair Wheelchair Levy that we all have to pay.
If 200 people on a plane said on landing that we need a wheelchair to get off the plane would they be able to supply 200 wheelchairs ?

I think there's a quota to how many disabled they will allow on the plane. No doubt it's in the small print on some hidden page somewhere.

    4 it would seem!

For safety reasons Ryanair can carry only a maximum of four passengers per flight who have either reduced mobility, or are blind/vision impaired travelling with a guide dog or alone or require special assistance at the airport. Such passengers (including in the case of those who are blind/vision impaired if travelling with a sighted companion) should notify Ryanair of their condition/requirements on the day of booking via your local Ryanair call centre. Failure to prebook may result in the service being unavailable on your arrival at the airport and your being refused carriage.

This adds €30 to a lot of people's journeys.

The 10kg isn't too bad if it wasnt for those sh*tty rules on what you can bring on board a plane

Huh, where did you get that number from?

It adds €2 if you checkin with a bag at the airport and nothing if you checkin online.

you cant check in a bag while checked in on line. if you check in a bag, you must check in at the airport. at present on a return journey with 1 bag its €26 (€9 bag €4 airport check in x 2= €26). from next week it'll be €30 (€10 bag €5 airport check in x 2 = €30).
crazy prices for bags considering the hand luggage rules these days

That's still only €2 and not the claimed €30 difference.

Online checkin prices have not changed, it's still €0, exactly the same as before. If you take a bag then you now pay an extra €2 each way.

eh...€30-€26 is €4 in my maths world.
i did say that if you check in a bag, you must check in at the airport (in which both charges has increased)
