Just seen this and like the looks:

    car_photo_258135_25.jpg

It's using the current European Focus chassis and engine from the Focus ST, should be alot better than previous failures like the Probe and Cougar.

Very stylish looking IMO, but they should have come up with a modern interpretation of the Capri's quad front light set-up.

    Capri my arse.

    Mike.

    Not bad, not bad ...

    Bonnet's too short though :D

I'm excited. VERY excited! The best modern day interpretation of any car from that long ago. Please Ford pay the Capper more homage and give it proper Capri headlights!

Why does it have 4 wheel nuts on each wheel rather than 5 considering it's meant to be derived from the Focus(which has 5)?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 23,157 ✭✭✭✭Alanstrainor

Wow, looks savage, i'm loving the rear:pac::pac::pac:

Looks like the Volvo S30, I prefer the Scirocco.

A subaru based 4wd Celica tho, rebirth of the GT4 on the cards?:)

Agreed, it is a savage looking beast but nothing on it screams 'Capri'.
At least when VW did the new Beetle it just looked like a modern Beetle

Most Foci have 4 wheel nuts per corner.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,147 ✭✭✭E92

The Mk2 and Mk3 Focus has 5 wheel nuts per corner HFIII. Only the Mk1 had 4.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,183 ✭✭✭Fey!

Looks beautiful but not, IMHO, anything like a capri.

    Mk2 has 5?

I agree with E92. Lovely car, but it should have the scowl of the MkIII. Also should be RWD and bear less of a passing resemblance to a Volvo C30. At least it has the right rear windows.

So, when is the new Manta coming?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 51,411 ✭✭✭✭bazz26

Most Foci have 4 wheel nuts per corner.

    Mine has 5.

Anyway these are only images and are not the final product which will more than likely use lots of components from the existing Ford parts bin.

I still think the car will be more successful than previous efforts irrespective of what name it wears.

A bit Brera-esque from the rear?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,726 ✭✭✭✭DMC

Nice, but I can't imagine this guy driving one.

Yep, as others have said... it's a beautiful looking car in isolation, but only the side rear windows look like anything from the old Capri. I mean where's the big long bonnet?

Still and all though... want one!!!

or see it screaming doan the street ala The Professionals!!! :D

I'll go check on my 07 Zetec....

Brera-esque - yes, but it's a good looking car. If there was an Alfa badge on it people would eulogising about it :D

No need for 4 headlights. Lots of Capri's had only 2.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,787 ✭✭✭prospect

I don't see much Brera in it. It is more like the small volvo.

Over all, it is quite nice, but I fail to see the link with the capri.

The back of the new one is too high. The bonnet isn't long enough

Like it was totally impossible to find a pic of a Capri without a half naked female in it ?? :D:D:D

    tsk, tsk ....

Melted and restyled Focus tbh. Should have been like the Mustang and GT and been a modern interpretation of a classic design. Give me an old school Laser anyday! :D

the two hikers in the background must have got a nice surprise to see a blonde lady prancing around in her undies.

  • Moderators, Business & Finance Moderators Posts: 17,898 Mod ✭✭✭✭Henry Ford III

My wrong. 5 wheel nuts per corner ok :o

I had a wheel off the RS2000 at the weekend, which probably gave me the wrong metal image.

    It's different. I like it

But to call it a Capri would not be wise imho

I had looked at the alloys and thought that they were odd but I never looked at the logo!
I wonder will GM produce a modern equivalent of the Manta?

Well, if Ford do put this car into production, no doubt GM will also jump on the bandwagon, as they have done in the past, following Ford's lead.

How the hell did you notice the two hikers????????? :p

Agreed, the rear side windows are about the only thing that hint at the real Capri.

As an aside, a bloke I went to school with (many years ago) insisted on pronouncing it "caparee", which we all reckoned was the Irish for 'sandwiches' (ceapairí); therefore, to a small group of lads who went to a certain school back in the '70s, this classic car is known as the 'Ford Sandwiches'. :D

    Carry on...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 38,247 ✭✭✭✭Guy:Incognito

To echoe others, it's not a capri. It's just a new car that Ford decided to attache the Capri name to. The should have just modernised the design but kept it as similar as possible.

Or better still, built it exactly as before with no changes. :)

It looks ike an Alfa to me tbh.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 619 ✭✭✭WHITE_P

Nice car but have to agree with some of the others, it is not a good example of how a modern capri should look.

Any one of the attached is a good example of modern take on retro cars.

Not mention what Fiat, Mini and VW have produced.

Exactly, the four headlight, long bonnet, aggressive front end is what defined the Capri. The new one is very stylish, but is no capri.

But damn, how gorgeous are the retro Camaro and concept Miura?

Nice looking car, but more hot hatch than coupe to me.

I also thought Volvo / Brera as well.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,423 ✭✭✭pburns

I had to look twice to convince myself it wasn't a re-badged Volvo. I really can't understand those who say it looks good. Whilst the Volvo and new Scirocco have a certain 'something', this is really mediocre and totally lacking in originality.

Also they'd have some neck to call it a 'Capri' - almost zero Capri styling cues...

Anyway, back in the 70s Capris were driven by hairy-chesten men. Today affordable coupes are for platinum-blonde builders'molls and metro-men/gaysters...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,465 ✭✭✭✭cantdecide

Looks very Austrian to me- that is to say, halfway between Germany and Italy. I must admit I let out a PHWOAR when I saw the photos. Don't like the lack of fifth stud. It trivialises it a little IMO.

Nope, the New Beetle dose not resemble anything of a Beetle, it is more a tribute to the more recent Mazda 121. The only thing Capri about that new Ford is the rear passenger side windows which is copied by heaps of modern cars other than that it is just like any other Ford.

The Hyundai Coupe captures the spirit of the Capri better than anything else on the market. Cheap, cheerful, good looking, and available with some rather pedestrian engines.

Maybe the new Genesis coupe will be driven by hairy chested men!

It's an insult to the Capri name.

They may as well call it a Model T for all the resemblence it bears to the original.

That's nothing like a Capri. It needs a longer bonnet, a V6 engine, rear wheel drive and a bloody live axle at the rear. The styling is nothing like a Capri, Mk1 or Mk111! It doesn't even look like a Consul Capri!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 818 ✭✭✭Cormic

I like it. It is not a Capri though. Also why are the exhausts on the front?
